I was also planning to have the dealer change my steering wheel to a 3 spoke steering wheel, they are charging $280 because they tell me there is plenty of work that needs to be done, such as checking the current airbag for any codes, inspecting the two to see if they are similar and no computer ajustments that need to be calibrated, then install, and check computer again.
Leading evidence: 'still there, and now i am bringing it' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'still there, and now i am bringing it' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check computer' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The dealer serviced the car for regular service, and checked diagnostics, but found nothing because I had disconnected the battery to get the light off and clear the faults.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

About 4 months ago, I posted my car was having check engine light problems. The dealer serviced the car for regular service, and checked diagnostics, but found nothing because I had disconnected the battery to get the light off and clear the faults. They only saw the history in the computer as low voltage due to the battery being disconnected.
There was a bug in the software for 00 996's and they flashed the motronic with a new program that they said may solve frequent check engine lights. Unfortunately the problem is still there, and now I am bringing it to the shop with the light on.

Is this true or pure hot air?
Thanks
I have done the wheel swap on a few cars, takes 10 minutes. You mark the location of the old wheel and put on the new wheel so that it aligns with the mark.
If you want to save $280 and come to San Jose when we have a hack day we can do it. Will cost you some beer. Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for the help. I'm so excited to get this thing on I'll probably install it myself as it does look pretty straight forward. My only concern is that airbag if I hit something wrong back there it might explode in my face.
Is there anything I should be careful with to avoid this from happening?
Thanks again
Let me know if you change your mind. I already have the steering wheel removal and replacement on video but may want to shoot a 4/3 spoke swap as I have done it several times but have no video. I finally bought a long #30 torx bit to use on a ratchet as I have removed so many wheels.
My fastest was when we were on a group drive and stopped for lunch and parked our cars in the lot. My friend Dave was turning in his leased car on Monday and wanted his 3 spoke removed and his old 4 spoke put back on. I did it while everyone else was getting out of their cars and going into the resturant, and a guy came up to us to ask what he we were doing as it looked like we were stealing parts. After the swap we were in the resturant just as the rest of the group had been seated. Did not even blink when we walked into the resturant with a steering wheel.
My friend Harry then bought Dave's 3 spoke and I put it in Harry's car a week later and did the OBC at the same time. Jeff
