Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Also, is the check engine for minor engine problems (O2 sensor, other emission, etc.) like most cars?
Leading evidence: 'Check engine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The car set all day, but the light was still on when I left work.

If your car has any aftermarket parts on it, such as an airbox or catalysts, these parts can sometimes set off the CEL, as well.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone have there check engine light come on and then later go off?
Yesterday morning I was leaving after dropping my daughter off at daycare. When I started the car I did not notice the check engine light. I had started to accelerate to leave, when I had to stop suddenly due to a car turning into the daycare. I then noticed the check engine light was on. The car set all day, but the light was still on when I left work. I made a couple of stops on the way home. When leaving from the second stop, the check engine light didn't come on. It did not come on today. (Light does come on with other indicators prior to starting) Does the check engine light reset if the condition that caused it to come on is no longer present? My experience with other cars (non-Porsche) has been that once on, the check engine light does not go off without some intervention ($). Also, is the check engine for minor engine problems (O2 sensor, other emission, etc.) like most cars? Hopefully someone can shed some light on this subject for me. I've only had the car since Easter and hence don't have much prior experience with the car.
The check engine light is normally for emissions related problems but since it measures things like air/fuel mixture and exhaust mixture, it can sometimes be indicative of other problems.
First thing to check is the gas cap. Make sure it is on tight, to the point of clicking. If that's not the problem, you can take it to any dealer or independent mechanic that has a PST2 or other equipment and get them to read out the fault code, which is stored, even if the light goes back out.
Sometimes the fault code makes the problem very obvious and sometimes it will take some troubleshooting by the mechanic to find the problem. If your car has any aftermarket parts on it, such as an airbox or catalysts, these parts can sometimes set off the CEL, as well.
If the problem affects emissions, it should be covered under you warranty.
