Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does the carrera rear spoiler just bolt on to where the moveable tail was or are there additon parts needed ??? My body shop guy is stumped

POST 2Original post

The carrera spoiler requires a whole new engine cover. Hence, partly, the $3k price for the whole thing from a Porsche dealer. Look at the PCNA site for a clear picture. <a href="http://www2.us.porsche.com/english/usa/home.htm" target="_blank">Carrera spoiler</a>

POST 3Original post

Look in the site under accessories-911 tequipment

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no - I did this to my 01 cab just a bolt on piece nut the bolts matched up when the removeable tail was take on out - it should not need a new decklid cover at all

I have the carrera spoiler on my car and without going out to look at it I am pretty sure it has a whole different cover with a different cooling fan, porsche script trim peice that replaces the rear tail light(since the spoiler has the light intergrated. I would be happy to look if someone has the part numbers and says I am wrong.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

you are wrong but thanks for trying - Ido appreciate it regardless

POST 8Original post

actually D911 i beleive that bruce is right. i also have the carrera spoiler and it required the deck lid to be replaced. it is a whole different rear deck. good luck

POST 9Original post

Did you get the wing aftermarket or is it a Porsche tequipment part. It looks like to me the genuine Porsche carrera wing is a new deck lid that you just bolt in, but the aftermarket wings like from Getty Design or MA Shaw looks like you just take out the pop up spoiler and replace the fixed carrera wing in place of it.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well this is weird b/c I had an 01 cab as well and the dealer showed me the porsche part and it was just a pop on ? <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> So confused! <img src="http://www.986host.com/albums/DarrenTT/my996rearRUF.sized.jpg" alt=" - " />

POST 11Original post

The wing on the Porsche website is a different style than the one in your picture. I suspect that as part of the '02 facelift, they changed the rear wing.

POST 12Original post

I have the factory genuine Porsche carrera rear spoiler and after closely examining it I can say that it is unquestionably not bolted into a hole in the engine cover left after removing the stock spoiler. It is attached to a base which is integrated into the engine cover. This base is vented and has a cooling fan attached to it under- neath. It also has an air intake gasket which connects to the engine air intake when the cover is closed.

POST 13Original post

I have the factory installation documentation. The "Carrera" rear spoiler like the one in Darren's picture IS bolted on. It is part number 996 512 903 00 G2X. The original Aerokit spoiler (old GT3 style) and new Aerokit II (new GT3 style) both replace the whole deck lid.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
