Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was just offered a 2004 GT3 that can be delivered to me within 5 days from now!! The car is silver with black int. xenons, alum. console, alum. guages, and a couple other options. The MSRP was 104,920 and the place that is selling it is asking $109,920(5k over). Does this sound like a good deal?? I really wanted yellow with silver as my second choice, and though it doesn't have every option I would like, all the options it does have are ones that I would have done. What do you guys think?? I know I have to decide if I like the car and all, but do you think 5k over is reasonable for a car I can have next week?? Thanks, Evan

POST 2Original post

If your fine with silver, it's a great deal. If you order a car now you have at least a 6 month wait. 5k isn't bad. I probably wouldn't pay much over that but think of it this way, 6 months ago you would have had to pay that in luxury tax!

POST 3Original post

First find out who ordered the car and contact him/her for a better deal. But be careful, the dealer may be selling someone's car without their knowledge. Happened to me twice with confirmed MY2000 C4 orders, barrier Porsche in Bellevue and then carrera motors in Bend OR. Selling them to me at MSRP wasn't as profitable, apparently..

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is not an authorized dealer, it is an Exotic Car dealership that purchased the car. This is no ones car, they bought it to sell it. What do you think of 5k over?? Evan

POST 5Original post

Be aware that as of yet there's been no word on when the GT3s being held at port will be released so take the 5 day delivery with a grain of salt. KarlS, a board regular that has one of the GT3s being held, has been trying to find out what the hold is and it appears to be EPA documentation related. That said, $5K over is pretty reasonable for a 1st round delivery GT3. While I'm waiting for my March '04 build I'm going to be regretting not taking a similiar offer a couple of months ago

POST 7Original post

AMG ETR, Make them a counter offer. You'll go the $5K over sticker if they can produce the car in 5 days. If they can't then they sell it to you for $5K UNDER sticker. Tell them you are serious if they are serious and get them to sign something to that effect. I bet they won't sign it and I bet they won't have the car in 5 days either. Last time I checked, cars are still sitting at port waiting for EPA approval, including a yellow one. If your first choice is always your dad's first choice then I'd pass on this as well so that you don't regret it later. Best of luck in your search!

Just out of curiousity. How is trading your personal car for a shared car going to work out for you if you go off to college and decide to take the car, or if you move out of your house? I would just be concerned about complications with that little scheme. I realize thought that what is more than likely is that you will drive it and he will drive it once in a blue moon, which is probably what happened with the M5 anyway. Either way good luck with the GT3 if you end up getting it.

POST 9Original post

Are you certain the Excotic dealership owner, or her brother, does not also own a Porsche dealership? Just what Porsche dealer do you think would willingly sell such a HOT (desireable) car at a price wherein another party could make money up-pricing it only $5k? I heard that one of "my" C4s went for $15k over MSRP.

POST 10Original post

My dealer is awaiting a call back from his PCNA rep today to get the status on the EPA certification. He said all the reps were at some offsite meeting all week with the head honchos, so he expects them to have some updated info. I'll post again this afternoon when I hear something. Karl

My familly does not keep cars very long, which is what I expect to happen with this one. If I went through the list of cars my dad has owned and sold in the last 3 years you would be amazed to see over 20 cars, which is the main reason he got into the car bizz, and is now a partner in a dealership!! I am pretty sure the whole sharing thing would turn into us taking turns driving it, as we do have other cars available to us for me to drive. I have only had this M5 for about 6 months, and I have had 2 E46 M3's pror, so I guess I am on the sam road as my dad (which I guess isn't a good thing) . Well that is my thinking. Now for everyone else:I had no idea cars were being held at the port , and of course this dealer did not tell me. Please let me know if there is any more information about this situation, could they never come?!?! Anyway this dealership is a good place, my dads dealership has done some bizz with them, and they always come through. Silver is again my second choice, but probably my dads first. He is not as flashy and does not wanna stand out so much, but he deff. like yellow cars, and would get it if we can find one. Well gotta go, thanks for the opinions. Evan

POST 12Original post

I waited 11 months to find just the right car - waiting and passing on certain things felt terrible at the time, but I am very happy now and its tough to remember what it felt like without the car. I've always been much happier waiting for what I really want, but hey, that's just me. I'd ask myself this: if car "x" (yellow GT3) pulled up next to my car "y" (silver?) at a stoplight a few months from now, would I smile or be upset for a week? Good luck and let us know how it goes.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just found another one, from a dealer that "owes my dad a favor". It is also silver, and has a 106k sticker. Again this car is on the ground, but the dealer said it has already left port and is on its way to his showroom. Now this scares me because of all this talk of them being "held" at port. Anyway this car is for MSRP, and he said (just like the other dealer) I can have it next week. LOL that sounds like a common response that just isn't true. Well I am gunna think about it, and give PCNA a call tom. to see what the situation is with the "hold". Thanks for the help guys, Evan PS- I have decided silver is a better way to go, everyone talked me out of yellow (IE-too flashy, you will get tired of it, silver is classic porsche, etc.)

POST 14Original post

Somehow (HP?) "derated" to get it through customs and free up the income to Porsche? Given all that's going on with the GT3, I'd be really suspicious.
