Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi everyone, I am a new comer to this board and do not yet own a 996, but would like to. I have a very highly modded M5 right now that I am looking to replace with a highly modded 996 C2 coupe. I went to Champion Porsche (Pompano FL) to look at what they had to offer me, and what they showed me was the CM001. This is the first 996 that Champion Motorsports made for the street. It was also a cover car on Excellence Magazine in April 2000. The car is very very nice with only 6690 miles on it. It is Glacier White with Graphite Grey Int. The only Porsche options it has are, PSM, and delete sunroof. It has the following options installed by Champion:Suspension, brake, exhaust, and cosmetic upgrades. The upgrades total 25K which add to the $75K sticker making the total sticker 100K new. They want "low 60's" for the car!!! Is this right?!?!?! Sounds very very high to me. What do you guys think??

TIA for the help,
Evan
Hey, in my opinion it truly depends what you are looking for. I think the MY02--> is a much better car mechanicly, I like the look of the 99-01 GT-3 personally though. If it was me and it was not my daily driver as mine is, I would take the white car. It also depends if you want to modify yours or not, if you do you might as well get the car that is already done. Although, I think the car is probably only worth about 58,000k, but if you are going to keep it for many years its worth it. GO FOR IT!!!
Thank you for the quick response. This would be my daily driver, which is fairly common in S. FL so I am not worried about that. I would rather a MY02 or MY03, however I cannot afford to buy an 02 or 03 and do the work I want to it. Thanks for the advice on the price, I really didn't know it would be worth that much as on Kelly Blue book it says $50k for a 1999(stock and with 6690miles). How much are 25k in mods really worth??
Thanks,
Evan
You could buy an aerokit 99 - 996 with >10k and do all the mods you want and still be under 55k. But if its gonna be a garage queen go for it.. WHats the difference??, but for 60k you CAN get an 02 coupe (possibly already modded)
WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for a 99. If you drove it off the lot and turned around to trade it in you would probably get high 40's. I think Champion is a bit expensive. Try looking around for a private sale. Check this board often as well as the funcarsonline.com board. For low 60's you CAN get a modded 2002. A base low mile 2002 coupe should be in mid 50's. Remember that many Porsche dealers are giving significant discounts on new cars. A base brand new 2003 with no options can be had in the mid 60's if you look around enough. I would say if you are going to spend over 55k, get a 2002. Otherwise get a 2000, or 2001. Or get Champion to sell you that car for 50k even (good luck).
too much. 25K in after market mods is worth about $5- 8K MAX. Either way, you need to determine if you 'want a modified car; or you 'want to' modify your car. Big Difference as you probably know from your M5.
As the owner of a somewhat similar car ('99 Aerokit street/track car) I'd say go for it IF the mods they made are ones that you'd consider making anyway. Especially go for it if you want a non-sunroof car, because they're extremely rare (I HATE sunroofs and I positively drool over any non-sunroof Porsche). If neither of those is true, pass - you can get a pretty nice '99 for maybe $20K less.

I dont know if you had thought about getting a car with the X51 engine package and modifying that? I think if you shop around you could modify a car like that and still stay under your 60k limit. If you like the car It couldn't hurt to throw a lowball number at them like say 50k. Keep us updated on your decision.

Thank you guys for your opinons. It sounds like I was correct that they are asking wayyy too much (typical of Champion). I am interested in getting a 996 and moddifying it, or getting an already modded car for a good deal. Like I said my limit is around 60k so I have to go from there. Again thanks for your help, I will let you guys know what happens. I plan on going to Champion to take another look, and maybe throw out a 50k offer.
