Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It was obvious when I assembled the manual that only over time Porsche published repair instructions rather than fully documenting a specific model year.
Leading evidence: 'Repair instructions rather than fully documenting a specific model year' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). For say MY2001 did you get a sense that at some point the manual fully documents the repair procedures?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Loren,
I have seen your informative replies on the forum including quotes from what I would guess is a Porsche manual. A question for you:
- What Porsche document do you have and where did you purchase it, cost?
I have just purchased a 2002 C2 and would like to know more about doing maintenace on it and perhaps replacing components.
One of the first things I am considering is installation of the new sports exhaust I purchased, not sure how to do this because it did not come with instructions. You don't happen to have information on this do you?
Thanks,
Gary

I purchased my copy of the Technical Manual (911 Carrera 996) from My Porsche. There are currently 73 supplements for this 15 volume manual set (only 1-70 are currently available to order at this time). The part number for the manual set (with supplements) is WKD-483-721 and My-Porsche sells it for $478.77 (plus shipping). Later you will need to buy additional supplements to keep up to date. These cost around $8-10 each.
You can also keep up to date on TSBs with a subscription to AllDataDIY.com. I think it is $24.95 for the first car and $14.95 for the additional cars and renewals.
AND of course, it pays to become a registered member of Rennlist!
There is a TSB for the complete sports exhaust install (including the electronics). Do you want to install the whole thing? A muffler only install is less than 1 hour and the complete install with electronics is about 10-11 hours.
Loren,
Wow that was a quick response! Thanks for the information. Registered status on Rennlist is in the near future. I will be doing only the muffler install,no electronics. I also have contacted a couple of shops locally to see what the cost would be to have them install. One of them (non dealer) quoted $200 which I guess sounds high given it is a 1 hour or less job.
Again thanks for your response,

It was obvious when I assembled the manual that only over time Porsche published repair instructions rather than fully documenting a specific model year. There are areas which are still omitted in my manual.

Ok, here is my quick "how to":
Removal --
1. You will need to lift the car high enough that you can safely get underneath (you do not need to remove the rear wheels on most cars but most folks find it easier with the rear wheels off).
2. Loosen the 2 bolts (each side) on the sleeve that connects to the cats and then slide it towards the cat. (You might want to spray these nuts with WD40 first so they will loosen easier -- just don't spray the O2 sensors).
3. Crawl under the car and remove the 3 bolts that hold the muffler mounting bracket and the muffler in place. These can be a bit of a reach and not much swing room for the wrench.
4. Rotate the muffler down and out from under the car.
5. Remove the tailpipe by loosening the clamp as you will need to use them on the new mufflers.
Install --
1. Attach the tailpipe(s) to the new muffler but do not tighten them yet. You will need to adjust everything later before you tighten them down.
2. Rotate the muffler up and on to the 3 bolts and lightly tighten the nuts.
3. Slide the sleeve off the cat and realign it on the muffler and cat. Again, don't tighten the nuts too tight yet.
4. Align the tailpipe so that there is about 20 mm distance from the top of bumper cover and equal distance and length all the way around. Then tighten down all of the nuts and the tailpipe, cat sleeve, and the muffler bracket.
5. Repeat on the other side and you are done!
Strat,
Yes and No. The supplements add missing pieces and also add model year changes. And, some things seem to take a year or so to get documentation on. One could argue that they should not charge us for the parts that were missing. I would rather they sold me a subscription and sent me the updates automatically - getting the updates has been a pain. If I didn't have good communication with Mike at My-Porsche.com I would never know the most of the supplements exist.
I bought the manuals using the first of the coupons from PCNA so if you are a PCA member and use the coupon it will save you $100. When I bought mine it came with "supplements" through 67. Then you send in a card that comes with the manuals and they will send you postcards when new "supplements" come out. I just received a card for supplement 75. I believe 73 and 74 are still back-ordered from a couple of months ago, however.
The worst part of deal is that the manuals do not come assembled. You have to put all the pieces together yourself and this is not an insignicant task. I'll bet it took 15 hours. It is a very tedious task because you put an index in and then replace it again with the next supplement.

I never received anything related to the shop manual even though I sent in the card.
I agree it was a major pain to assemble the manual. In fact the 996 manual is the most money I have ever paid for a shop manual, especially given that it is incomplete as received. Additionally over time I have found a number of errors which have cost me money.
