Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
There is a sump fix from Porsche for about $1000 for heavy track use, especially for high g's from racing tires.

Noony, I think the sump issue you mentioned relates to using R compound tires, which I don't plan on doing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just picked up a 99 996 w/ 62K on it via private sale. According to dealer who serviced car, it was in for all scheduled maintenance (on time), and also serviced for mass air flow sensor and airbag light. It doesn’t appear that it’s been in for some of the other issues common to 99’s, e.g. oil seal and coolant expansion tank. I checked the car myself and see no signs of oil at all.
I am planning to track the car and was thinking of first having my local dealer look at the oil seal and coolant tank prior to taking it to the track? I know that this car has not been tracked before- was a commuter car. I’m afraid that putting it on the track will bring out any issues that have not appeared before due to the hard driving. Any comments/suggestions?
Additionally, I am planning to do the following: aero kit, 18” wheels, GT3 front spoiler, Pagid racing brakes. I also plan to register the car for around-town driving so it won’t be a pure track car. Anything in this list unnecessary and/or anything else I should consider?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Jen
Congrats on the new 996. The rear main seal (oil seal) and the coolant tank are both known issues. I still have the original parts in my 2/98 build C2 with 22K and I have taken it to the track a few times (knock on wood). With 62K on your clock, you may never have the problems. But track use is a different animal than road use. Just keep an eye on the water temps and an eye on the ground under the engine for drops of oil.
The oil starvation issue mentioned above is also known. Porsche does not suggest the use of race slicks without performing the oil kit upgrade.
I would add a suspension upgrade to your list of mods. The factory ROW M030 is a great upgrade if you want to keep factory parts. Otherwise it seems that the Bilstein PSS-9 is the way to go. If you plan on spending a lot of time at the track... harnesses, a race seat, and a proper cage may not be a bad idea
These cars are a blast to drive at the track. Have fun and be safe.
Thanks, all, for your input. Noony, I think the sump issue you mentioned relates to using R compound tires, which I don't plan on doing. However, if anyone has a link to the oil upgrade kit, I'd be interested in looking at it anyway.
Thanks again.
