The installer indicated that this is an issue with V1s and no good fix..I use the am to check traffic etc and while not a great inconvenience to turn off V1 it would be nice to just tune into am station.

Suggestion

Move the V1 off the windshield and move it around inside the car, away from the radio and antenna (you can use a straight thru phone cord extention cable..radio shack) Check to see if the interference (noise) diminishes when you move away from the radio/antenna towards the back of the car or even outside the sunroof!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This forum has proven very valuable and it is nice to see the willingness to assist.Has anyone had interference caused by v1 on am radio reception . my v1 is hard wired but I cannot use am when v1 turned on.If so,any fixes? Thanks for any advice or observations.

POST 2Original post

JKK, Having never used the AM radio in my car with the V1, I don't have an immediate answer. However, you could this simple test to determine whether or not it is a radiated or conducted interference problem. Knowing this will help in coming up with a solution. 1. Move the V1 off the windshield and move it around inside the car, away from the radio and antenna (you can use a straight thru phone cord extention cable..radio shack) Check to see if the interference (noise) diminishes when you move away from the radio/antenna towards the back of the car or even outside the sunroof! 2. Try powering the V1 from an external battery, battery charger/eliminator or even another vehicle. Keep the cord away from the antenna/radio. If it is radiated emissions, then there isn't much you can do except relocate the V1 away from the radio, maybe even try modifying the V1's chassis for improved shielding. If it is conducted emissions on the power cord, then you can try a clamp on ferrite filter on the power cord/wiring. These are a DIY item available from electronics supply companies and merely snap on a cable. Feel free to email/PM with questions (I'm an electrical engineer and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night )

Itc Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, my unit was installed by professional installer and is not readily removable(at least with my limited abilities). The installer indicated that this is an issue with V1s and no good fix..I use the am to check traffic etc and while not a great inconvenience to turn off V1 it would be nice to just tune into am station. I will discuss with installer armed with your insights re radiated versus conducted interference. Would be interested if you do try the am on yours to see if you have the same problem.
