Mine's in for it's second annual service. I just got a call, they need to replace the RMS; 10,600 miles. The service manager said that they're putting in an updated RMS rather then replacing the engine. Is this preferable - ok? I just had some drips, nothing major.

If your car is a MY01 and was built after Feb 2000 then it should have had the new seal. There have only been two seals the original and the new one. What there has been is three changes in the install procedure. Also, the dealer is supposed to use a special tool to test the sealing surface specifications and if it fails Porsche will replace the engine. These are all documented in TSBs and the service manual.

Thanks Loren, the build was on mine was 4/01 so it should have had the new seal then. I hope they put it in right and test the surface specs. At least I have it documented.
