I checked on dealer extended warranty from PORSCHE and they do offer them but not from PORSCHE.

Suggestion
I've run into this problem for my prior cars and had to purchase the policies from the dealer.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought one that I saw on the Edmunds site. My car is a 99 and I bought a 7 year(from 3-2003) 100k warranty for 2400. It has a 100 deductible. I have dealt wirh this company with my truck and they were ok to deal with.

CJM,
I checked on dealer extended warranty from PORSCHE and they do offer them but not from PORSCHE. They are from other warranty companies. And the one I checked on at my local PORSCHE dealership was quite high in price and did not provide the benefits that Warranty Gold did. Perhaps dealers in other areas offer different warranties but I have been told the dealer ones are always higher in price and the dealership gets a commission. I did a lot of research before finally deciding on Warranty Gold. Dealt directly with the company both online and over the phone. No high pressure sales pitch either. Warranty Direct hounded me with phone calls and e-mails once they knew I was looking for an extended warranty.
The dealer mark-up on extended warranties boarders on raping their customers. Even the GMC warranty purchased thru most dealers is double the cost.
Check with your service mgr. to make sure they will accept the warranty coverage you plan to purchase... and then shop!
The factory warranty on my MY99 expired two weeks ago. Right before it expired, I called up the Porsche dealer where I bought my car and asked about buying an extended warranty. I ended buying one with 7 years/75K coverage for $2400 with a $100 deductible per visit. Now I'm covered until May 2010 or 75K, whichever comes first. I currently have 27K on the odometer. The extended warranty is offered by a company called Western Diversified Services. I've never heard of them, but if anything major happened to my car, I know I can at least take it to the Porsche dealer where I bought the warranty and be covered. The warranty does allow me to take my car to any dealer or certified shop for repair.
Anyone have the warranty gold link? I remember a discussion about this at length and it seemd that it was by far the best in terms of what it covered and I believe it had no deductable? Thanks I am thinking of getting an extended myself as the ge didn't transfer from the last owner but he agreed to pay! So Please let me know if that is the best as well as other things to know. Thanks.
Hey I think I went to the right warranty gold site and it said they are no longer selling the warranty to ca residents? What is the best warranty for use in ca that the dealers will honor most? Thanks. I plan on using rusnak in thousand oaks btw.
Sean,
I did some shopping around before I purchased my warranty. You basically have two choices: Either buy from 1Source or buy one from a Porsche dealer. Most of the other 3rd party warranty providers will not do business in California, for what reason I do not know.
Here's a SmartMoney link to extended warranty info: http://www.smartmoney.com/consumer/index.cfm?story=20030319
It's common in this industry for providers to disappear after several years, leaving your warranty worthless. This is why it would be best if Porsche offered and backed an extended warranty. The dealer may sell you one, but again, it would be worthless to you if the provider folded. Also remember there is a huge markup (100-200%) so the price is negotiable, and a big money maker for the dealers.
California Insurance policy states that, "Service contracts can only be sold legally by the dealer who sells or leases you a car."
I've run into this problem for my prior cars and had to purchase the policies from the dealer.
Here's a blurb I found:
Problems Buying Extended Warranties In California
In 2001, California challenged online auto warranty companies, in a nutshell, telling them to stop selling online in California. Nearly all online companies won't give you a California quote. But 1SourceAutoWarranty is still giving you a custom quote for car warranties in California. 1Source along with its Risk Retention Insurer, PrimeGuard Insurance Co., Inc., a risk retention group is still in litigation in federal court against the California Department of Insurance with respect to their order. 1Source continues to sell in California because it believes that it ultimately will prevail in the litigation. Currently, 1Source and PrimeGuard have filed amended complaints. There will be a hearing in the case in January, 2003; and, at that time, we will give you another update. The state claims to be acting on your behalf, but they took away your right to shop for the lowest price and send you back to the dealers so you can pay top dollar for extended warranties. Who benefits the most from this? There sure seems to be a strong dealer lobby group in California. Write your congressman.

Interesting thanks for all of the great information and research. I will look into 1 source as well as what my dealer will back. Hopefully there will be some inclusivity and I can buy the same warranty elsewhere or at least have them match the cost. Thanks again.
Hey Guys,
I went on the website as well as spoke with a couple of dealers and it seems the best deal I could muster, being the dealer was more expensive was repairmaster at 4yr 75k @ $3k with a 200 deductable? 1 source at the same coverage is 2459. Is this about what I should pay? Should I go to the dealer with this price and have him match and buy through him? This was at the local dealer which I plan to use for the servicing. Is it better to pay a bit more for the lower deductable? I really don't know much about buying warranties any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Sean,
I bought my extended warranty from Niello Porsche in Sacramento. I bought my last two Porsches from Niello but I don't service my cars there because it's too far from where I live. As mentioned earlier, my coverage is 7year/75K/$100 deductible for $2400. If you want to give them a call, ask for Tom Hickerson, the Finance Manager. [phone removed]. He is whom I dealt with.
Good luck!
It's a company called Western Diversified Services. The entire Niello dealership chain uses them. I read the contract. It looked pretty solid, but I haven't had to make a claim yet.
And 1source raised there rates for the 996's I was lucky to get a 3 year for $1200 about 7 months ago. Now they only offer a 4 year for around $2600.. but they do write policies for CA.
