Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I put in ISO-heet, and a Lucas oil gas stabilizer but it was still misfiring every time I'd fire it up.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here and thrilled to report that a multiple random cylinder misfire went away after replacing my 6 year old battery that was on and off the battery tender (mostly off). I thought it had been bad gas (coils and plugs are relatively new and it wasn't always the same cyls) because my car is particularly sensitive to bad gas and needs octane booster (previous owner dropped in a tuned 3.8L engine after blowing his 3.4). It had sat for a while with a quarter tank and I'm in a humid environment so I thought I had some condensation in the tank, also because in California all our gas has ethanol which absorbs moisture. I put in ISO-heet, and a Lucas oil gas stabilizer but it was still misfiring every time I'd fire it up. So I decided to fill the rest of the tank with fresh gas. That didn't fix my misfire and now I thought I was dealing with the need to drain 18 gallons of gas. I let the car sit, discouraged and trying to think of a plan (would have been fuel filter replacement with a durametric turning on the fuel pump). As it sat for a while the battery went totally flat, goners. So I had to finally replace it. Literally on the first drive the check engine was off and it stayed off. About 100 miles in and there hasn't been in single misfire. It's a good reminder that low voltage can still most certainly cause weird gremlins in our otherwise low-tech cars. My Honda Ruckus fuel pump doesn't work with a low battery, I guess it's all the same! And since this is my first or second post ever, sharing a pic of ol' beast.
