Many instances of drivers looking in the rear view mirror and either drifting into the opposite lane or the gravel, and today i almost cost an accident when this guy ran a red light and he was looking towards my car all along, and the person who was taking a left turn almost ran into this guy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know this topic is weird and may have no point to it. But, I am kind of thrilled about it. In the few days in my 03 c4s, one thing I am noticing is many drivers screwing up a lot taking their eyes off the road to look at the porsche. Which i have never seen before. Many instances of drivers looking in the rear view mirror and either drifting into the opposite lane or the gravel, and today i almost cost an accident when this guy ran a red light and he was looking towards my car all along, and the person who was taking a left turn almost ran into this guy. Just, wondering whether anyone else has noticed this. (Dayton, OH is not a small village, i've seen porsches here)

POST 2Original post

Hhh. i have been to Dayton Ohio. heheh also been to dimond club :-)

POST 3Original post

Hey Jeeva - No, Dayton is really a village at heart. I know, cause I lived most of my life there. As a matter of fact, heading there tomorrow to arrange the financing on my 996, since I still do my auto loans through the Reynolds Reynolds / Affinia credit union. Great to hear about someone w/ a C4S there. Did you get it at White Allen? It was a 928 in the lot down on Springboro that launched my Porsche ownership career. I didn't buy the one I saw there, but it was love at first sight and I just had to have one.

POST 4Original post

I've received many "thumbs up", but never any situations where an accident is almost caused. Is it safe to assume that these gawkers are kids?

POST 5Original post

I guess I shouldn't talk, since I gawk at every Porsche I see. But it is interesting how big an impression these cars make. I just sold my Laguna Seca Blue M3. During the two years I had it, I got a few looks and one or two questions. In the TWO DAYS that I've had the 996, I've had more stares and questions than during the two years I had the M3. And my car is wine red. Beautiful, certainly, but not exactly an arresting color. I can only deduce that the disctinctive shape must signify true elegance and performance, even if folks are too unenlightened in an automotive sense to realize it.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah! I bought mine at white-allen. The guys who almost caused an accident were teenagers, but the drifters are of all ages. But I gawked at every porsche and ferrari's that passed me too. Finally the sun is out today after weeks of miserable rain, I am out for my first semi-long drive to columbus, can't wait.

POST 7Original post

Maybe it's an Ohio thing? Shortly after getting my Boxster in Jan, '97, a state trooper followed me off the interstate in Ravenna, pulled into the oncoming traffic lane at an intersection, rolled down his window to say what a beautiful car! Kind of embarrasing but a nice compliment.

POST 8Original post

I had a similar experience that did not end happily for the other guy. I was in my 996 TT on the freeway in pretty heavy traffic and the driver in a pickup in the lane next to me was checking out the Turbo instead of watching where he was going and promptly rear-ended the car in front of him. And this is in Dallas, so it's not an Ohio or small town thing. BTW, I was born, raised and up to 1989 lived in Ohio (OSU law class of 1986--Go Bucks 2003 Football National Champions!!!).

POST 9Original post

I live outside of Pittsburgh and lately have noticed an increase in the amount of (To Fast To furious young kids in decked out Little cars) trying to race anytime they run across me. No doubt why the insurance industry tags these guys with incredibly high insurance rates.

POST 10Original post

It's interesting. . .I seem to get more looks in the Boxster than in the C4S. Now, when the C4S Cabriolet comes out, that may be the ultimate. Well, maybe the Turbo cabriolet. . .

POST 11Original post

Back there when i drove the 996 in Lagos Nigeria, I practically was the reason for a few accidents to the stare and glare... Most of them was due to the reason the others want to follow you and challenge you on the curves and roundabouts.. and as you konw you can seep thru a gap the others think they can follow.. and there it goes really ugly!
