Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

FWIW I would buy the whole unit to do a color change, too.
Leading evidence: 'Replace too' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have read posts that say the only way to swap out the colored crest for a silver crest is to swap out the entire airbag. Boothdesign has a silver crest they say can be glued to the horn pad. Which begs the question... Does anyone know if the OEM crest can be removed without damaging the horn pad or messing up the airbag?
It's my understanding that the crest on the airbag is attached from the back, prior to final assembly. I ordered a leather airbag unit from Carnewal.com for ~$450. Looks great, comes from the factory, and no issues with aftermarket attachment.
In my opinion the airbag unit is one item I would not take any chances with. <img border="0" alt="[byebye]" title="" src="graemlins/wave.gif" />
I think the 3-spoke leather airbag can be had for around $380 in the U.S. now. When I got mine it was not in stock and it took five months to get, partly due to no air shipping allowed.
FWIW I would buy the whole unit to do a color change, too.
That's too bad. I agree that it's not worth the whole unit, and I wouldn't want to take chances with the airbag. On a black car, the colored crest looks great on the hood and wheel caps, but it really sticks out in a silver interior.
Maybe if you had a source for a new airbag at the ready, you could remove the unit and try prying out the crest. Then if it's messy you have an out. The pyro unit is NOT going to discharge from that, but take reasonable precautions.
The soft cover is riveted on, so you are not going to get behind there if there is more than glue holding on the crest without actually dismantling the pryotechnic device/airbag from the housing.
The oem crest is not glued on - it is mechanically attached from the back. Jeff

well I don't know how the cover attaches but I know with a 993 you can take the airbag cover off the airbag, hence you should be able to just buy the cover and reattach at a significant savings and hassle of shipping an explosive device. I would research that route if I were you guys.
I have always thought the samething but I think it splits a weird way so that it caries the emblem away from it. Either that or it is attached well enough that when it splits it will not release from the cover as it expands for the air bag.
The crest is riveted from behind the cover.
You cannot buy individual part for the air bag, just the entire unit.
This shows how the cover splits. My friend's 2000 Boxster S, and yes it had a silver crest. Jeff
