Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HELP!! I just got my 1999 996 back from a body shop my radio fuse was blown, an easy fix. But the A/C - heater control panel is dead. The 30 amp fuse was fine, the 7.5 amp was blown, so I replaced it but still no power. I don't know if there is any connection but the battery seems to need replaced, so I'm sure they charged it . I really need some help, I don't know where to go now anyone have any ideas?

POST 2Original post

you probably need a new battery so go to your local parts store and get a new one

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took a battery from our BMW Z3 and will pick up the new battery tomorrow (after Interstate tests it) the car is running fine EXCEPT the heat - A/C control panel any ideas?

POST 4Original post

Did the body work involve working under the dash or around the ac display? Checked fuses C7, D6 and E7? I think you should bring it back to the shop for them to fix it, assuming it was working before the repair.

POST 5Original post

Also check relay #18 on the relay panel under the driver's footwell.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HELP !!i checked the #18 relay above the fuse block (switched it out with its lower neighbor)and no change I'm wondering if it could be a loose plug maybe in the rear of the unit.. Dash slights DO work on the unit

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I called the body shop and they said they had difficulty hooking up the spoiler plugs under the rearm hood. Of course they 'know nothing!!"

POST 9Original post

The longer you wait to bring it back, the less likely they'll be to accept responsibility. If you want to accept this as a "learning opportunity", grab the appropriate wiring manual pages and have at the dash.

+1 if you have already checked the fuses I mentioned in earlier post. I would start with verifying relay #18 has power and signal supplied to it. If that checks out, I would remove the radio and check the connectors at the back of the ac control unit.
