All you need is the liquid polyurethane of the durometer of your choice (I used a Shore 80).

I'm going to use the same polyurethane to stiffen up my transmission mount, which will take a bit of fiddling to get at of course and I'll have to figure out how to keep the liquid poly from oozing out of the mount (since, in the car, it is mounted vertically).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Instead of buying expensive semi-solid engine mounts, I decided to "modify" the stock ones. All you need is the liquid polyurethane of the durometer of your choice (I used a Shore 80). Remove the engine mounts, set them upside-down on your work bench, and pour the polyurethane into the void in the top (well, bottom, but not when they're on your work bench). Let it set up, and, voila, your engine mounts are now quite a bit stiffer than before. No idea what the effective durometer is of this hybrid stock rubber/polyurethane mount is, but it is noticeably stiffer than the stock. It doesn't transmit that much more vibration into the passenger cabin. Quick and easy, and cheap. I'm going to use the same polyurethane to stiffen up my transmission mount, which will take a bit of fiddling to get at of course and I'll have to figure out how to keep the liquid poly from oozing out of the mount (since, in the car, it is mounted vertically). I'll post the procedure once I figure it all out. The tranny mount, in particular, is a point of failure and instead of replacing it with another squishy rubber one, why not just firm it up with poly? As always, YMMV.

POST 2Original post

People have been doing this for awhile, but one thing you failed to mention (or perhaps do?) is to remove the mounts, cut them open and drain the fluid out of them first. THEN, fill them with polyurethane.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I learned something then. I didn't realize they were filled with fluid! I'll have to do that next time, thanks for the advice. Thanks, Captain Obvious! (I mean that literally, not smart-assedly.)

POST 4Original post

There is a lengthy post on this DIY if you search. I've been running mine for a couple years now. It could be helpful to visualize where to cut to drain the fluid and such.
