Suspected cause

I think the problem is either the glass needs to be adjusted to press against this a bit tighter or possibly the weather stripping is just getting old and shrinking.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got a new top installed on my 99 Cab. I took it through touchless carwash to get some water and heat to help the roof stretch out. At certain angle and water pressure the top appears to be leaking. It appers to be coming from the window edges right in the centere where the bend is in the frame. I don't remember it leaking before the new top, but I could be wrong? Do you take your convertible through touch-less car wash? Any problems?

POST 2Original post

Nope. I've never taken my Boxster (or Turbo) through a touch-less car wash. A body shop owner told me these use a hard wax (in the water). I have washed my cars at a DIY car wash a lot since I have no way to wash the cars where I live. I use the soap, rinse and spotless rinse settings only. The Boxster leaks a tiny bit -- just a few drops -- at the driver's side window. The water comes in through where the top of the glass seals against the rubber weather stripping that runs along the top rail. I think the problem is either the glass needs to be adjusted to press against this a bit tighter or possibly the weather stripping is just getting old and shrinking. The rubber appears to be U shaped. I like to think that if I wanted to I could find some length of rubber o-ring material -- small diameter though -- and tuck it down in the bottom of the U and cause the side of the U to bulge out a bit and effect a better seal. But I've not been motivated enough to try this. The leak is not very bad -- just a few drops as I mentioned before -- and I avoid aiming the wash wand nozzle at this area. The window never leaks when the car sits in the rain or when driving in the rain.

POST 3Original post

I use touclless car washes in winter time - since clearing my drainage lines and going over all seals with gummipflege I have zero leaks
