This is not a probability of success.

I immediately thought it was the RMS or IMS seals, but from where the leak is, don't think that it is there as I was under the impression that if it was one of those areas, it would be more towards the middle of the car.

Leading evidence: 'rms or ims seals' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'rms or ims seals' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Long time lurker looking for some ideas on where this leak could be coming from. Car is a 2001 C4. Took the car out of storage for the winter, started it up and then noticed that it was leaking from the driver's side rear of the car. I immediately thought it was the RMS or IMS seals, but from where the leak is, don't think that it is there as I was under the impression that if it was one of those areas, it would be more towards the middle of the car. Put the car with a piece of cardboard underneath and there has since been only one or two drops. Will be taking it to the mechanic, but am debating whether or not it's safe to drive the car at this point. When the car was started, there were not any issues. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated

Could be a spark plug tube, camshaft cover, maybe an AOS. A good inspection can probably pinpoint the source of the leak. As for driving the car, I have driven my cars with an oil leak, RMS, without any issues but I knew where the leak was coming from and had been assured by a SM RMS leaks never get bad and the engine or car was at no risk of any collateral damage. The leaks were not making a mess of the underside of the car either. Drive it or not? Up to you then I guess. Unless you are compelled to drive the car my advice would be to book the car in and get this diagnosed and taken care of. If you drive the car you put off this repair. The other thing is the leak may be a sign of something more seriously wrong -- like an AOS -- and this never gets better with more driving.
