Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know early 996's had a rubberized coating on the center console that made it harder to paint (or fill the scuffs).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, like you, I browse many a Porsche website. I saw a 996 with the center console between the seats painted the same color as the car. It looked VERY nice. I currently have a Ocean Blue Metallic 996 with a Sevanna tan interior. The center console has a few scuffs on it.... meaning the sevanna tan paint easily scratches. I'm thinking if it was painted.... it my 1) look better and 2) be a little more scuff resistant. Scuff.... on driver side seat.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can i buy a painted part, or would I have to take it out and have it painted? Is there a website out there that offers painted interiors?

POST 3Original post

You can have it professionally done, but it's not cheap - check out Bumperplugs.com, a well-respected forum sponsor. To cover up your scratch, you can do what I did. If you have the ashtray, pop it out and take it to home depot and have the paint matched in a flat latex enamel combo primer/top coat. Apply it sparingly with a foam brush.

There are a couple other vendors on eBay as well.

POST 6Original post

I recall seeing the "painted" interior parts for sale at one of the Porsche dealers here in Dallas not long after the 996 came out. The parts were actually on display (happened to be in Speed Yellow IIRC) and I thought it looked very retro cool. I have no idea if they are still available from the factory but I can say for a fact that they were at one point. I'd be surprised if they are already NLA but who knows...I'm still an air cooled guy and don't have a lot of experience sourcing parts for newer/modern 911s. May be worth a call to your dealer just to find out.

POST 7Original post

Any competent body shop can paint pretty much anything in the interior for you. If you are comfortable taking things apart, you can save a lot of money by just bringing them the pieces you want painted, rather than paying $100 an hour for them to remove and replace everything as well. Bear in mind that it will be fairly expensive because the prep work to prepare everything for painting will be fairly extensive as the rubberized coating on the interior plastics is a major pain in the *** to remove.

POST 8Original post

I have painted my own many times. What year is yours? I know early 996's had a rubberized coating on the center console that made it harder to paint (or fill the scuffs). The hardest thing I dealt with was getting the clear to look right.

Contact polar porsche They might have some painted or they could hook you up

POST 10Original post

When I upgraded my OEM Shifter to a 997 one, I pulled my center console out and have it painted by a local reputable bodyshop to match the exterior color. While they had my color matched, I asked them to also paint my bumperettes for a small extra fee, very worth it :-) Cheers,
