Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace $75 part and all is good' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'electrical or mechanical' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace $75 part and all is good' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

i had the car in a shop today and they bench tested some of the electronics and are stumped....we had to remove the wheel etc to get trunk open but still cant fix the problem.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi everyone, I have a 2004 911 S4. my battery is fine but the trunk wont open, either with the key fob or the button by drivers door. in fact, when i push the trunk button on the key, the doors lock and unlock! the door lock function works on key. i had the car in a shop today and they bench tested some of the electronics and are stumped....we had to remove the wheel etc to get trunk open but still cant fix the problem. any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
It's normal for the doors to unlock when you open the trunk with the key fob, and later lock it you don't open the door. Missing from your description is when you attempt to open the trunk that way whether the trunk latch is reacting at all, i.e. if the problem is electrical or mechanical. If there is a sound at the area of the latch when you push the trunk button on the fob, try holding down on the front edge of the lid to see if it will release. If the latch isn't reacting at all, then you're likely dealing with an electrical issue.
thanks for replying. yes, there is a slight noise that can be heard when the trunk button is pushed on the fob, i haven't checked when pushing from the door. i did try the other suggestion of holding down while pushing the fob and it didn't open. thanks again!
I just had this issue. It was my actuator motor to the latch (connected to latch in front bumper). When it got hot it would not open. I replaced the $75 part and all is good. If the noise of the latch is not heard or is low then it is your actuator. part# 996-511-127-00
My electric latch was not opening most of the time when the car was hot, the same as others here. Swapping in a new one with that part number took an hour. Now it works great. I can hear that the pulse to unlatch is stronger. Thanks!
