I replaced my classic II's with the newer Carrera wheel.
Leading evidence: 'Replace classic ii's' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'little better' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check autopia.org' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I traded my "new" tires and used Classic II's which were on the car, for new Russo's balanced on the new Carrera wheels for 1200 bux.

Suspected cause
Big improvement on looks...probably a little better on driveability.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

...or swap them for the Carrera wheels?
My car (of 2weeks) came with Sport Designs (I bought off the lot). I love the way they look, but have 3 concerns:
1) they're heavy: roughly 6lbs heavier than the new carrera wheels
2) they are a PITA to clean
3) the front offset is different (although by only 2mm), 52 vs 50mm. Not sure this matters.
The big bonuses of the carrera wheels are 1) easy to clean, and 2) very light. The other wheel I want is the Fikse FM5, but they are $1k/wheel, and the same weight as the carreras!
I find the current ride pretty harsh, and wonder if some of this could be because of the heavier wheels.
Has anyone dropped this much wheel weight? If so, how did the car's behavior change?
Also, do you think the Dealer would be willing to swap me wheels? Other easy ways to do this?
Thanks,
Scott.
I personally like the style and they are a nice change for the standard turbo look you see on most 996s. I dont know the best wheel cleaner but you definitely need to find a good one that will take away some of the cleaning pain. Someone will recommend a great cleaner, I'm sure or check Autopia.org.
If you decide to trade, you shouldn't have a problem trading even or better for another set.
Finally, find comfort in the fact that they are not sport classics, those are REALLY a PITA to clean!!
I replaced my classic II's with the newer Carrera wheel. Love them. The look updated the car, mine is a '00.
Easy to clean...even on the inside.
Big improvement on looks...probably a little better on driveability. I have a heavy c4 cab, thus I really didn't notice the weight difference.

Good deal to me...
For a good wheel cleaner try P21s gel. This is a Porsche approved formulation. Spray it on and hose it off, agitate with a brush if really dirty. I agree that the sport design rims are difficult to clean. I upgraded my hollow spoke twist rims for Kinesis K28's and miss the ease of cleaning... but the look the Kinesis wheels provide is worth the effort. The weight of the K28's is about the same as the hollow spoke wheels, for comparable sizes.
I totally agree with you on the fact that the Carrear II wheels are really easy to clean and they look pretty good to.
There are many wheels cleaners on the market, but what I strongly recommend is that you get a after coat for them like Zymol Wheel Coat. Basically it leaves a sort of clear coat on the wheel and prevents the break dust from penetrating the wheel so it's much easier to clean. You might have noticed that every time you clean your wheels it gets harder to remove the black dust. That's cause as time goes by the wheel's orignal coat wears away and the break dust starts to puncture the surface of the alloy.
Personally, I think a lot depends on the color of the car and the effect you're trying to achieve. Obviously I'm predajist because I have the sport designs, but to me they "fill the wheel well better. JMHO tho!
And yes, they're a PITA to keep clean! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
Thanks guys. The biggest 2 things that bug me are the weight and the slightly different offset in front. IMHO the 50mm offset wheels (carrera) fill out the front wheel wells a bit better.
I think they are beautiful wheels, so it would be hard to part with them.
As far as filling out the front wheel wells. I see Porsche has a 5mm wheel spacer kit you can buy. This would put my fronts at 47mm offset, which would probably look great. Has anyone run these spacers? Just for looks, or...?
PS. My car is silver, so I think the brushed lip of the Sport Designs breaks up all of the silver on the car.
Thanks again,
Scott.
I just bought a set of the Carrera Wheels this weekend. I had the Sport Designs prior and I've got to agree with you, they are a serious p.i.t.a to clean! Plus, I liked the idea of having a lighter wheel, even though I doubt I'll notice the difference.
