Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

At that time I pulled over, suspected the quality of gas, checked the belts, fuel cap (it had been replaced with the recall), oil pressure and temps were fine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This weekend just for fun I took out all of the rear carpet, rear sound insulation and rear panels and took the car for a drive. 2001 911 Coupe. At idle my engine noise is disconcerting in that the lifters seem to be rattling. Is this normal? The sound is more obvious and loud with the insulation, etc. out and I've now reinstalled everything, but I'm concerned about the motor. All other signs are good in terms of oil pressure, water temps, etc. and I just had the car hooked up to a PST2 device at the dealer. (They needed to switch out a bad O2 sensor). The car is meticulously maintained and currently has 12,500 miles on the odometer. I ordered it new. Your opinions on the noise are appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Hey Gonzo, what were the symptoms of your bad O2 sensor that made you take it to the dealer?

POST 3Original post

You might be hearing the fuel injectors now that you have removed the insulation. Jeff

POST 4Original post

yeah I would like to know the symptoms as well, rough idle? thanks.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Symptoms for the check engine were nominal. I had just completed a DE event at Mid-Ohio and was half way home to Chicago and had just filled up with gas. The check engine light just came on about 20 miles from the gas station. At that time I pulled over, suspected the quality of gas, checked the belts, fuel cap (it had been replaced with the recall), oil pressure and temps were fine. I called my Porsche mechanic at home over Easter and he suggested that if the motor was strong then to drive it, which I did. The next day a dealer hooked up the PST2 to get the cause code, then switched out the O2 sensor and the air filter (the air filter was only 3 weeks old) and all was well.
