Don't want to spend huge amounts but can send the Inifinitys back (cost about �100) and replace with 6.5" but what?

I have searched but can't find a response that doesn't confuse me. In the dash and rear the system was upgraded to 2 x Alpine SPG speakers (2 way, 45wRMS, 200w Peak). Confused as to what to go for in the doors. I have currently got but not fitted Infinity 52.11i 5.25" 13cm 2-way 165 watts ..... as they fit as direct replacements into the door enclosures. However some forum posts suggesting not too complicated to put 6.5" and much better sound? So questions - Stick with Infinity 5.25" as originally planned? Go for 6.5"? If so how much cutting of door enclosure required (Nokia i think)? Do I go for co-axial or a set of components and just discard the tweeters? Don't want to spend huge amounts but can send the Inifinitys back (cost about �100) and replace with 6.5" but what? Confused? Thoughts?

Are you using the stock amp and crossover? For those with door speakers I believe they are just woofers, the high and mid are accomplished by the dash speakers. Effectively it's an OEM 3-way component system. So installing a full-range speaker in the door is pointless without also re-wiring the system, right now the OEM crossover is only sending a low range signal to the door speaker. But with that said, the small subwoofers that I've seen installed in the door speaker locations are expensive. There's no reason that you couldn't install the 2-way Infinity speakers in the door as planned, just know that you won't be getting full-range sound from them (which is ok).
