They told me I should replace the C2 calipers with the TT Calipers.

I have looked into painting the calipers but have been told that it will still be expensive because they need to be powder coatd and I will not have use of the car for a few days while they are being sent out for painting.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am thinking about swapping my 996 C2 Calipers for the Boxter S Calipers because I want Red Ones. Nobody seems to be able to tell me if they are the same size in the back. I am getting conflicting stories. Even the dealerships tell me they will look into it and call me back. Haven't heard back from one! Does anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance!

POST 3Original post

I understand that you could just have the calipers painted. If you need a supplier for new brakes you might contact Foreign Affairs Motorsports. Talk to Bobby at [phone removed]. Regards, Mike

POST 4Original post

Call Crescent City Porsche [phone removed]. I just bought Boxster S calipers $1200.. ask for John

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have looked into painting the calipers but have been told that it will still be expensive because they need to be powder coatd and I will not have use of the car for a few days while they are being sent out for painting. I think if I can get a good price for new ones and sell the others on EBAY I should come out about the same. The ones on the car are in excellent shape. Here is a follow up question that someone brought to my attention. They told me I should replace the C2 calipers with the TT Calipers. They told me that it is just an even swap and I would get better braking performance. Is this true? Is there anything else needed? Thanks again!

POST 6Original post

Redhat... Someone else told me that he upgraded his to the TT calipers and rotors, and he had regretted doing so.. I believe he was going back to stock or Boxster S calipers.. I don't recall the problems that he had but he just mentioned that it wasn't worth it. I've done my homework and Crescent was the cheapest, and you can probably get $600-$800 for your used Black Calipers on e-bay.. so $300-$500 plus labor is what it will cost for the Boxster S calipers. I'm getting my Techart's put on tomorrow, what size do you have 18" or 19", and did you have any rubbing issues if you did the 19"s.. Any pics of your cab?

POST 7Original post

Loren, are the 02 C4 Calipers also the same as the Boxster S so they can be interchanged?

POST 8Original post

Don, Yes. C4 is still the same size. Only C4S is different (same as Turbo).

POST 9Original post

Hi Gang: My son and I went through this exact issue about 15 months ago, and our experiences are: POWDERCOATING 1. Powdercoating will cost $75-$150 each caliper 2. The calipers will need to be removed from the car and disassembled (taking the pistons etc. out) Mechanic's labor $150-$250; doing it yourself $0 3. The car will be out of commission for 3-7 days 4. The calipers will need to be reassembled and reinstalled on the car then road tested. Mechanic's labor additional $150-$250; doing it yourself $0 5. The red calipers will need to have the Porsche logo letters stenciled on $50; doing it yourself $0 Total cost $600-$1150 ----------------------- Boxster S calipers 1. Purchased from the Porsche dealer $$250-$275 each caliper 2. Remove the black calipers and replace them with the Boxster S red calipers Mechanic's labor $150-$250 doing it yourself $0 We found it to be easier because we did not need to disassemble the calipers. 3. Sell the black calipers on ebay--$550 for a set of 4 Net total cost $600-$800 with very little hassle and downtime. ------------------------ I guess the scariest part about the powdercoating method is the disassembling of the pistons, being that is the braking system I would leave it to the professionals IMHO. And of course, the downtime while waiting for the powdercoating to "dry" our mechanic was going to charge us for 3 days of storage. Hope this has help, good luck Bocky '02 Carrera C2 coupe (son's) '01 996 TT front bumper Porsche aero side skirts 18" Carrera wheels Porsche Boxster S red calipers Technic package Ruf RGT rear wing

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys! Exactly the information I was looking for. This is why I love this forum. Looks like I will go ahead and purchase the Boxter S Calipers and make the switch. I actually was quoted a price of $850.00 for the set of four (500 for fronts, 350 for the rears) which seems like a great deal to me. They will be brand new from Porsche. Kevin M. I got the 18" Formulas so no rubbing issues. I love the look of them. I will post some pics soon. Thanks for your help.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here is an update. The dollars I was quoted were too good to be true...turns out those prices were each instead of per pair. So I decided to cal Crescent Porsche to try to get their advertised special in all the magazines and on their website ($289.00/caliper) They said there was a recent price raise by Porsche and now the best they can do on the fronts is $400.00 each. I wonder if that can be considered false advertising?

Redhatcab: Have you tried Sunset Porsche [phone removed], they sell Porsche parts at dealer cost + 15% plus no sales tax in Oregon!! We purchased our Porsche aero side skirts and '01 996TT front grills from them. Yeah...I did try there. Still MUCH higher than the price advertised by Crescent.
