Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My battery has failed me twice already on a 2 month old C4-S. The first time I didn't use it for about 5 days and two of those days it got pretty cold. This weekend I went to start it after 3 days and it wouldn't turn over! Is it possible that by leaving my V1 on it's draining the battery? I've owned other radar detectors in the past and NEVER had problems with them affecting the battery. Just figured I'd ask before calling the dealer and looking like a fool....

POST 2Original post

Oh yes I have a V1 in my truck that has 2 batt and the truck will not start if left for a week. The other interesting thing is snow does not stick to where the V1 is pointing out. I will assue it is the heat.

POST 3Original post

Lance, Definitely change your V1 to a switched power source (if a hardwire install....lots of good posts available via search in most of the forums....Boxster, 996, 996TT) Batteries are funny things, they can supply 700Amps to start, but give them a moderate load (IIRC, around 0.4A for a V1 running) and they will slowly discharge in a matter of days. The colder it gets, the quicker it happens. You may also want to have your battery capacity/load tested, since it sounds as though it has been completely discharged twice in a short period of time (unless you have an Optima battery)

POST 4Original post

dude just tap it off the telephone connector at the passenger side of the lower console, quick and easy

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been meaning to do a hardwire but just haven't got around to it. Thanks.

POST 6Original post

A 2 year old Porsche factory battery will not crank the engine after 1-2 weeks if it has simply been left sitting even with no accessories on. I know because this happened to me. The dealer told me that there are so many microprocessors in the car that the battery gets drained rather quickly if left sitting. What the dealer doesnt say is that the MOLL/Porsche OEM battery has one of the lowest CCA and Ah ratings of any battery put on any modern day vehicle. The El Cheapo replacements you can buy from Autozone are twice the capacity for only $60. Of course, if you can squeeze the Optima 34 in there somehow, then you have the best money can buy. The simplest solution: buy the Porsche Battery Maintainer (I got a discounted price of $57) and use it every night (lead acid batteries do not suffer from "memory effect"). <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

POST 7Original post

My battery died on me at the Daytona 24hrs... good thing I was in the Porsche Paddock and was able to get a jump. I was also pleased when the local Pep Boys had a replacement battery for me. The stock battery does not last forever and IMHO, they should be replaced every two years... especialy if not driven on a regular basis. I am on battery #3 in my 4/98 delivered C2. The factory batteries also require occasional topping off of the water levels.

POST 8Original post

My V1 killed the battery in my M3 sitting for 8 days. Those things are brutal if left powered up. Lesson learned: attach it to a switched source or remember to power it down! -Paul

POST 9Original post

Firstly the Porsche factory batteries are junk, and you should consider getting an Optima next time you need to replace it. Secondly if your V1 is hardwired you should tap into a switched power source that has sufficient power. I would suggest the sunroof switch, or the cab roof switch if you have a cab; I believe these are 30 amp fused so power should be adequate.
