Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I recently put in an Alpine Stereo and CD Changer in my C2 Cab. Subsequently when I lock the car with the remote and arm the alarm system I get one of those honks from the horn meaning something is open (trunk, hood, console storage) however when I check nothing is open. I let the dealer look at it and he said there is nothing he can do...it is because I have an aftermarket stereo installed. I accepted that explanation because I kind of like how the horn honks because I know the car is armed. However...now the car sometimes honks when armed...sometimes it doesn't and then sometimes the alarm just goes off for no apparent reason a few minutes after I arm it! Anyone know what the heck is going on? And how I might be able to cure this?

POST 3Original post

I just had this happen with my CDR 223. The shop fixed it. It was a loose "ground" on the radio. The alarm monitors the radio just like the doors, decks & console. I don't think the alarm actually arms when you get the honk. So when the honk doesn't happen, sometime later you might get an alarm. At least that's the way it worked on mine. The dealer should be able to fix it, though probably not under warranty. I can try to look up the connection to the alarm circuit when I get home, if it would help you.

Patrick...you know that may be it. I think the alarm only goes off when I DON'T hear the honk. I will have to check and make sure. Anything you can do to find out would be greatly appreciated...

POST 5Original post

The alarm beeps when you arm it because you have an after market radio. You need to remove the alarm wire to the radio frame and tape it. Do not know why it is going off a few minutes later. Got it fixed. The wire connects to a small square plate. The metal housing was connecting to that plate off and on causing the problem. My stereo guy just disconnected it and everything is fine. Thanks For the help!
