Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99 996 and ordered silvervision bulbs for the front and rear turn signals. The rears were easily replaced and does clean the look of the orange up. When i removed the front lighting units and went to replace the front turn signals i found the bulbs were clear and the housing is orange inside the unit. Is it possible to remove the orange inside the light unit? I studied the unit but did not want to take a chance and damage it. Any help would be appreciated. Doug

POST 3Original post

hi doug, I had the same problem, you can break the orange plastic 3 sided cover which houses the clear bulb. I also figured out a good way to do this. I used a soldering iron to melt each side and slowly pulled out. I think this is the safest method and it is impossible to cause damage unless you are careless and melt the black plastic which the bulb screws into. Just be patient and it will slowly come out. It took me 10-15 mins each side. Tell me if you figured out a better way.

POST 4Original post

Yep, you have to remove the amber internal 3 sided lens/diffuser through the turn signal bulb opening. UK board A Boxster friend, Henery, just did this on his litronic headlights. another way to easily remove the plastic orange lense in the headlight is to get a needlenose pliers and twist the plastic while pulling out of the whole. If you twist back and forth enough times, the plastic will cut in pieces little at a time. I've done this through experiences 4 times from my first Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, and last one was the porsche. All the american cars turn signals have these as DOT requires them for approval i guess.
