Suggestion
I have never felt pressured to spend more on repairs than I felt were warranted, and when I replaced my Boxster with my 996, they very helpfully categorized suggested repairs and upgrades as immediate, soon, and "someday." When I told them about my plan to convert my C4 to RWD when my 996 was getting some other work done, the service writer had a handful of printouts when I picked up my car to help me out with the DIY project.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A friend with 05 Cab just moved to SD from LA. Dealer quoted $1350 for new fr pads...ouch. I did a search and these 3 came back as good to go, but some threads were several years old. Are these still the go to San Diego guys? Thanks!
Black Forest is awesome and has recently added at least one additional VERY knowledgeable Porsche tech. Unlike the indy I work across the street from, who looks at water-cooled Porsches as the devil's work, Black Forest is very knowledgeable about the 996 and newer cars. They also participate and sponsor PCA events, including the annual performance driving school, which I think is very cool.

When I told them about my plan to convert my C4 to RWD when my 996 was getting some other work done, the service writer had a handful of printouts when I picked up my car to help me out with the DIY project. They respect that I do most of the maintenance on my car, which isn't often the case.
They maintain a wide variety of Porsches, from new to very old, from stock to race-prepped. I have never had the urge to shop around or get a second opinion with Black Forest - I'm a very satisfied customer.
1350 for front pads? So...let's say he gets the most expensive front pads....200 bucks...and it's 1150 for labor? Seriously...you can take a 30 min nap...do the front pads....and still have time left over...
I am moving back to San Diego and will not have my trusted Indy here in San Antonio (DBC Tuning, outstanding service). Glad to hear about Black Forest.
Not ready for brakes yes but asked the Porsche dealer what it would cost for all four. $2,700!!! They will not replace pads only, so this includes rotors. Have not check with an indy but now I know why people call them stealerships.
That's at least two offers to do it for him - sounds like a wrench party to me. Mark, unless your friend's antisocial, tell him to take us up on the offer.
