if you go to 6 speed online,to the turbo section (996) you will find a link about removal and what you have to do do,basically replace the grills and some body repair for the holes from the mounting hardware.

I wanted to do two things today on my Targa. 1. Clean radiators. 2. Remove bumperetts.
I read posts here and in other forums about removing bumperettes. Some suggests no body work is needed, and others suggests replacing the bumper.
Well, mine will require replacing bumper if I want bumperetts gone. It is messed up pretty good.
Would like inputs from you guys. What aftermarket bumper do you suggest?
Why not go with a replacement OEM bumper in the same style but without bumperetts? You can probably find one with OEM paint on ebay. Otherwise I'd recommend Precision Porsche for aftermarket.
I've got a primered turbo front bumper I bought for my previous 02 that sitting in a box in the garage in S.F. that my wife would like me to get out of the garage. P.M. me if interested.
Yeah, PO said he likes the look with bumpernetts so he must found one on eBay. Asked him then whether he still had stock bumper, but no luck.
I thought of going back to stock bumper with a lip, but as FLY said, I think finding another turbo bumper may be the way to go.
GT2 style bumper is my another choice.

i repeat,i have never seen those bumperettes on the front of a turbo/4s style bumper.are those a factory option? is there a 996 part number on them? they look out of place.
ok upon further investigation,it looks like they were available on early tubos,they are not very attractive ,and therefore you really never see them. if you go to 6 speed online,to the turbo section (996) you will find a link about removal and what you have to do do,basically replace the grills and some body repair for the holes from the mounting hardware. Thank you for the suggestion. I contacted Eric. He told me no fix for it. Only option is a new bumper. Apparently there were about 500 of with this type of bumper. What are the chances that it will end up on Targa? I guess I should consider myself lucky.
Maybe they are really lucky charms, I might put them back on and be done with it. Makes no difference in terms of the joy of driving.
