Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
My Boxster S had a rattle that I traced to a bracket on the inner door structure that had come slightly loose.

Suggestion
Lube the window channels, check for any broken plastic guides (especially the handle and lock arm guides), tighten all of the screws, then replace the door panel plastic snaps that break down with time.
Leading evidence: 'bracket' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bracket' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace door panel plastic snaps' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
I noticed a light creak at idle a few days ago but I think it was due to the frigid temperature.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having had a 02 m3 convertible, I was expecting some creaks. And for a 10 year old car, my 4S cab is pretty solid, but it does have some creaks and cowl shake. Gummi pflege helped some. Anyone have any tips?
Gummi Pflege! I haven't seen this product in years. I made the switch to Wurth rubber care but Gummi Pflege has the way more cool name!
I noticed a light creak at idle a few days ago but I think it was due to the frigid temperature. Over all my car is pretty solid but I do hope the creak doesn't persist and goes away with warm temps. Where did you apply the Gummi?
Actually, I was kind of surprised how quiet my car has been over our notoriously bad upstate NY roads this winter. My hardtop has the older-style bayonet mounts, but it has been fairly rattle-free and the car as a whole sounds and feels solid.
If you want a near permanent fix to creaks / groans you can apply Krytox. The stuff costs more per ounce than gold but it is an amazing substance. It's what the factory uses and widely used by all automakers.
$54 for a 2 ounce tube, holy hell!

Do you just use it on rubber seals and gaskets?
Yes. Although I found it cheaper on eBay. You don't really need all that much and the liquid is the proper viscosity to get vs the cream.

Mine rattles like crazy too. Just got it a couple of months ago so I'm slowly addressing all the rattles. Glad to know there's a fix! So why are you having to "put it up"? I'm just curious...
Krytox goes on the rubber seals, but also the joints/hinges.

My Boxster S had a rattle that I traced to a bracket on the inner door structure that had come slightly loose. It was interesting as the sound seemed to be coming from higher up in the car and I thought it ws related to the roof.
Now the car is quiet with the top up.
Pulling the door panels on an older car can be very useful for killing squeaks/rattles. Lube the window channels, check for any broken plastic guides (especially the handle and lock arm guides), tighten all of the screws, then replace the door panel plastic snaps that break down with time.
