Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

These were my symptoms:
1. Range of key fob remote went from 3ft down to 3 inches.
2. I opened the key, replaced the battery - same problem.
3. I reset the key fob remote by removing the battery, reversing polarity, holding down a remote button for 3 sec, replacing battery in proper polarity and it would work for about a day and a half.
4. Finally the reset procedure stopped working altogether.
5. Note: Key fob LED was still lighting up!! Just not communicating with the car.
6. The only solution left was to buy a new key head with internal guts off ebay - they are around $140, about half of what is current retail dealer price. When you buy the new key head from ebay PLEASE MAKE SURE IT COMES WITH a long numerical code that is printed on a tag tied to the key. Without this code the dealer cannot programming the key to the car.
7. Take the new key head to your nearest dealer. If you are nice to the SA (ie buy him a coffee / donut) they may charge you half hour labor to code the key. Otherwise at most it's about $110 in labor to code it (an hour).
I took the extra step and bought the new 911 key head available at about 20% off retail from Suncoast, ECS, Sunset, etc...
LOL... although in my case - a 12 pack of donuts and a couple of large coffees at Dunkin Donuts - dealer let me go for around $50...
and they detailed my car!
But seriously, You could get it fixed for under $200 - I think it's worth it!

I bought a new Fob from eBay, just waiting to get some time and take it to the stealer. I too was hoping this thread would include a way around the stealer for this problem, guess not.
I had the same range problem. I had read that attaching a short piece of wire to a part on the pwb would increase the range, some said to 30'. I opened up the pwb and decided that while the soldering iron was hot that reflowing the microswitch might work. It did and it was easier than adding the antenna wire. It worked and I never did add the antenna wire.
Here's what happened in my case.

Resoldering was necessary since the switch actually fell off the board, the range increased significantly after resoldering.
That's a nice key in the OP post though!
