I thought I'd check with a group who seems to actually know what they are talking about.

For those who may have installed it on an '03 996 coupe, would you do it again if you're using the car for street use only?

For those who may have installed it on an '03 996 coupe, would you do it again if you're using the car for street use only?

I called my local dealer in LA to get an estimate for installation of the B&M short shifter. After seeing all the great posts about the improvement this addition makes to a stock 996, it sounded like a great upgrade. Dealer said, "why would you want to install one of those on an '03 996 - they already have Porsche's new factory short shifter..."
Since I know that dealers often talk out of their ... I thought I'd check with a group who seems to actually know what they are talking about. So - have any of you heard that there is a difference between the '03 stock shifter and the earler versions? For those who may have installed it on an '03 996 coupe, would you do it again if you're using the car for street use only?

i drove 03 996's, i don't feel any difference b/n my stock 02C2 or stock 02C4S. it's the same shifter as far as i can tell. now i have B&M, once you use it for a week to get used to it, i will be very very surprised that you want to go back to OEM, regardless if you drive on street or track.
Thats alright. Whe I tried to talk to the dealer about install of my ROW M030 suspension I was asked "why would I want to do that... the car is perfect as is". It would seem that some dealerships do not like to mess with aftermarket upgrades. Pehaps try another dealer or a local Porsche shop.
I just installed mine this weekend, quite a bit of difference. Initially, it is much stiffer than stock which I was not happy about at first. It is also much shorter and much more direct/succinct into each gear. I have only driven it to work this morning mbut I am already liking it but it will take a awhile to get used to it. My 2 cents........
One of the other things I noticed in previous posts, is that the B&M shifter has fewer plastic parts and is likely to be more durable. My service tech thinks it is a good upgrade given the quality differences and doesn't understand how Porsche can put such cheap plastic parts in a high dollar car.
