Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I like the look of the front spoiler too and did some checking on the net.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I seen someone add a GT3 front spoiler/splitter to a stock C2 bumper cover and really like the way it looks. It appears they have gone up in price year after year and are now up to $432 from the dealer. Anyone have a good source to get it at a better price? Part number is 996 505 986 91.
BTW use plastic rivet and not screw to attach it or instead of loosing the lip on a bump, you will break the bumper...
don't expect any better handling from it. if it is for look only then do what you have to do
if it is $500, save and buy a gt3 front bumper
I think they are like $1200 or something
Purely for the look. I like it over the actual GT3 cover with it because it drops it to low for driving on the street. Need to find the splitter for less than Porsche retail price. And yes I will be attaching it with the plastic rivets.
I did this mod and followed the 6speedonline link. Used the same recommended metal screws and washers.
Works well and actually provides a little more downforce up front at speeds of 80 mph and above. 100 to 110 is even better. Not as floaty; I have the US M030 suspension.
Costed me less than $250. Looks good and helps a little.
I do scrape more on driveways and hit those parking blocks twice. No problems other than a scuff.
The splitters are meant to be expendable they are attached by plastic rivets and double sided tape,do not mount with screws,if by chance the splitter scrapes or hits something substantial you want it to breakaway and not damage the bumper cover.and there are two types as well, the standard gt3 lip and the gt3 cup splitter, the cup splitter extends farther back to the wheel well ( see the two pics below). You will scrape the splitter, but on a car thats lowered it does protect the bumper from damage to some degree, youre going to be entering alot of drive ways and roads, and parking lots at angles so be prepared....good luck!.......by he way ive included a photo of my original C2 bumper with a Gemballa lip that was installed this was a lip offered for the 996 mk 2 front bumper,im looking to sell this bumper if any one is interested as ive gone to the gt3 front cover.
This gets my curiosity up: I'm familiar with aluminum and steel pop rivets, but "plastic rivets" I'm not familiar with (although they do sound like they'd have some intriguing possibilities).
Are they similar to the metal pop rivets or are they 2-piece deals that screw together? Or completely different? And where are they typically sold?
Never too old to learn new tricks and tools!
Thanks.
I like the look of the front spoiler too and did some checking on the net. And I found a more economical version.
This dam weather we still have a ton of snow and its freezing cold (-24C)
Go to the 996 GT3/GT2 forum. Seveveral articles on where to buy and how to mount.
Other sources are ex fvd, and you can use glue and expansion nuts for attachments in addition to plastic rivets.
As I said I did some searching on the internet a came across a product called EZ-Lip (
www.ezlip.com
)
It is an inexpensive lip to improve the visual effect of your car. It is not designed to improve the aerodynamic on the car, or improve the down force at high speed, it is purely cosmetic.
Some Porsche people may say it looks cheap, I have to disagree. I am very satisfied with EZ Lip product and dont see the need to spend over $200 for an OEM lip. If you are just looking to improve the appearance of your 996, EZ-Lip is certainly a good, inexpensive option.
I have seen the product at Canadian Tire (for the Canadian Porsche owners) or on Amazon and for $30 how can you not try it. No screws, easy to use. It took me 15minuted to install (
www.ezlip.com/how.html
) and if you dont like it, just peel it off again. I read many reviews, some are good and some are mixed, but as I said you dont have to break the bank to try it.
I have no affiliation with EZlip, just a guy who has to work hard for his money ;-)
You can also buy that stuff at Home Depot for $5, it's just door weather stripping.
But, it does actually look pretty good if you put it on the car correctly.
Here a review from Amazon (this is not my review !!):" As people have said, it is indeed just garage door weather stripping. However, I tried to actually buy the supplies and do it myself and the results were not very good.
First off the cost came out to almost exactly the same
. Secondly, the tape did not want to even stick to the garage door seal I got so that right there was a collapse in my plans to go around buying EZ Lip. I can tell you this now. . . just buy EZ Lip for the main reason that it is INDEED easier than going out of the way to try and make this product yourself."
As you said - it does actually look pretty good - for $30 !!
I will say from that angle it does look good. I did opt to order the factory one from FVD. I like the look of the GT3 splitter, especially where it comes around the side and flattens out a bit. It is a bit much for just a look but hell I bought the car knowing parts where expensive.
Let me say it again, yours does look great and is most likely going to survive longer than mine once installed.
Installed the GT3 front splitter today. Installed it with 8 x 13mm plastic push rivets. Very happy with the end result, gave the stock C2 bumper cover a better sporty look. Here are some not so great pics, once the weather clears up I will take better photos.
