Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

Albert one question. How do you know they are leaking if you have to ask how to get to them?

POST 4Original post

Today I paid an exorbitant sum to have mine replaced. If you can DIY it that would be great.

POST 5Original post

I'm a bit confused...are '99 cabrio tops electric or hydraulic operations, or both? The latest Panorama mag. (Feb 2014, pg. 112) has a Q&A answered by Joel Reiser, a respected 911 tech expert, in which he emphatically states that the 996 cabrio "top is electric and cable-operated, not hydraulic." While I do not wish to challenge Mr. Reiser's response, perhaps some clarification is merited. Comments? relinuca

POST 6Original post

The clamshell cover on the rear of the car is cable-driven via an electric motor. The movement of the top itself is via hydraulic cylinders (driven by an electric hydraulic pump). The center latch is electric. The "wings" or "flaps" on the sides are driven via a screw drive and small electric motors.

POST 7Original post

There is a DIY of sorts over at Pelican Parts ( link ), plus there are several shops that do rebuilds of cylinders. Google "996 convertible top cylinder rebuild" for several options

POST 8Original post

I just had mine done this past September. Contemplated doing it, but at the last minute decided to let my indie do it. Got the hydraulic cylinders at Cabriolet Hydraulics (great company to deal with, fast shipping; no affiliation, just a happy customer) in central FL and I think my indie charged about $200 to install both and flush the system.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that is a good price on the labor,i may try to get someone local and have them do it
