Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recently had my clutch replaced because of the heavy feel it had. After the replacement it's still heavy - about like the G50 I had in my '87 Porsche. Any ideas?

POST 2Original post

It probably is you clutch accumulator that's bad not your clutch.

POST 3Original post

You need to get a second opinion just to be sure. If the heaviness is real, one possible explanation is the release bearing is installed incorrectly. IIRC the fingers of the clutch spring fit inside a groove around the bearing's diameter. The release bearing can be installed to where it presses on the spring. This installation results in the clutch lever being positioned incorrectly and thus losing some of its mechanical leverage. But before you consider a (possible) botched installation you need to be sure what you are feeling is real and worthy of concern and if it is there is not another explanation. I hope a clutch fluid flush/bleed was done after the clutch job? While I've never detected any change in effort after I have detected a considerable difference in clutch action smoothness and shifting smoothness.

POST 4Original post

Also check the clutch booster spring to see if it's broken.

POST 5Original post

Mine is exactly the same after replacing the clutch. Tomorrow I am installing a new clutch servo spring and will see if it fixes the stiff pedal. I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Let me know if that does the trick. Would love to learn from your experience without swapping parts until something happens.

POST 7Original post

I like the servo spring as an explanation better than I like a botched install.

Servo spring is definitely broken. I'm replacing my clutch master cylinder also so I haven't installed the new one yet. Check it out: Post #20
