So it stands to reason that they do not necessarily run together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got the water temp a bit high (maybe 210deg F) and noticed only the right radiator fan turned on. Are they both supposed to turn on together, or are they staged?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do both of your radiator fans turn on at the same time?

POST 4Original post

I didn't bother trying to look up the description of operation, but there are two relays (hi & lo speed) for each fan. They are controlled by signals labeled "stage 1" & "stage 2". So it stands to reason that they do not necessarily run together.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, Patrick. I tried finding a description of operation in the service manuals but had no luck.

POST 6Original post

There is only one temp sensor for the electric radiator fans, and it is in the engine compartment. The fans do have a high and low speed. But other than that I'm not sure what the question is. Something like one radiator and fan for 3 cylinders, and another for the other side?? Both go on and off at the same time. Jeff

POST 7Original post

2 speed fans, both come on together... <img src="http://web.dsldesigns.com/~ljcook/images/cooling.gif" alt=" - " />

POST 8Original post

Well, Loren, we may need to think a bit while we guess at the problem. It could be one of the electric fans is broken?? Need to get one of those PST2s. When your car is hooked up there is a function to test the 2 speed fans. There is a button to push for low and then for high. Jeff

Excellent. Thank you very much, gentlemen. Both fuses are good so I think I'll take it by the shop.
