Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use "aero" wing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'improvement' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace front too' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
I think that e-gas combined with the new Variocam system is probably an improvement, but some may prefer the mechanical linkage.

Suggestion
front end might get a little light, so of course I'm going to change the front too.

They were supposed to run there in March but perhaps it's been delayed by weather.

I will have the car wind tunnel tested hopefully...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The only thing I can think of is the former GT3 has a mechanical throttle linkage and the '04 model uses e-gas. I think that e-gas combined with the new Variocam system is probably an improvement, but some may prefer the mechanical linkage.

The old GT3 was more attractive (better looking wheels and rear spoiler) - and I agree about the e-gas too. However, I am informed that the old GT3 rarely made its advertised 360hp, while the new ones surpass their 381hp rating...
Yeah I kind of think the same, that the older one did have a nicer aerokit.
I initially didnt like the new wheels, but in I like the new wheels now - not crazy about the rear wing, or the Turbo like lights. I liked the 99 version the best.
Anyways does anyone know what the times at nurnberg was?..My dealer told me the new GT3 reclaimed the title.
Walter Rohrl did a 7:56 with the 2000 GT3. He did a 7:47 with the 2001 GT2. He estimated the '04 GT3 would be 10 seconds faster but I haven't seen any times posted. They were supposed to run there in March but perhaps it's been delayed by weather.

Remember why the wing is there. It is not for looks, but for aero reasons.
The first GT3 Cup cars used the "aero" wing. It was good, but the "ironing board" wing was found to be much better on the race track. The later GT3 Cup cars used this wing. Therefore it makes sense that the New GT3 street car should also us it.
Again is about pure function. Just as the GT3 should be!
All I know is, I'm taking out that top wing and replacing it with a Banana wing on mine, similar to the Prodrive 550M race car.
I'm sure it will be just as functional, but it will look a lot better!
What does a banana wing look like? Any photos? One caution: The front and rear spoilers are tuned together, so that the front-rear balance is not disturbed at speed. If an aftermarket wing has more or less downforce than stock, it could be pretty dicey. Remember that more downforce on the rear has a tendency to make the front lighter...
The banana wing looks similar to the GT3 cup wing, except it has a more curved smooth shape...
For an idea of what I'm talking about, look here...
<a href="http://www.berg911.com/products/996/" target="_blank">http://www.berg911.com/products/996/</a>
Except I will take the top portion only and fit it to the existing base, or use the GT3R upright stands.
Downforce should be more than stock, so you're right... front end might get a little light, so of course I'm going to change the front too. I'm not really too crazy about the Aerokit II anyway...
So I will probably swap it for a 996 GT3 Cup bumper, or GT3-RS, or a Ruf RGT type. Any of these bumpers should add more downforce in the front to balance out the car. I will have the car wind tunnel tested hopefully...
Did I mention that several tuners have already been able to extract about 435hp with ECU, intake, and exhaust?
Wilber on this forum will be spearheading our GT3 project. I can't wait to get the car... it's going to be awesome!!!
Hamann, can you tell us more about the 435hp?
I know the GT3R has 435hp. It has an intake that has a throttle control valve for each cylinder - the GT3's has only ONE valve for all 6.

I like the new GT3 and I guess the stop watch does too... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

RR, are you forgetting that the GT3-R/RS are using 2 x 30.8 mm dia. restrictors per FIA rules? Talk about a handicap, it's like breathing through a straw! Can you imagine how much power that engine could generate? Probably more like 500hp. Do not let the low numbers fool you, they are artifically restricted.
As far as the 435hp, I know that RS Tuning has already achieved this level. It shouldn't surprise you, considering that they got to 411hp with the old GT3.
By the summer, Manthey Racing, IMEC, FVD, Cargraphic, Ruf and others will be able to hit this mark.
Yeah, it's true... but that wing on the stock GT3 looks so ... plain and wimpy. I wished they had curved off the edges like the GT2 or done something with it rather than make it look like it was stuck on with glue!
Trust me, I think the banana wing will have quite a bit of function, especially if I get a different front bumper.
Hey, if all else fails, I can always use the ironing board wing from the GT3R/RS race cars! How's that for a gaudy wing?
