POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Why is it that everytime I see a fellow porsche owner, their first intuition is to race, or give a snobby impression? More often do I see porsche owners try to pick a race than give a friendly wave. Besides this wonderful board do I ever get a chance to stop with another Porsche owner and admire or compare notes one on one about these nice cars. I have friends in the ferrari groups and they are much more friendly when they see another ferrari owner on the street. Just today, on my way to check out Gumball 3000, I saw a modified black 996 lowered with black kinesis rims and yellow painted calipers on my way to SF and while I was on my cell phone gagged me into racing up to 120mph while on the cell phone. If you happen to read this board, I'm just curious if your car has any mods in the engine.

POST 2Original post

As you said, it takes at least two cars to make a race. My most common roadway "challenge" is from BMW owners. I just shrug and go about my driving, I KNOW what my car will do and I have nothing to prove at this point in my life. Ignore them, they'll go away.

POST 3Original post

my immediate response is that a huge majority of porsche owners aren't "porsche drivers", for lack of a better term, especially in the traditional biblical sense. just look at all of the people that buy a porsche and then do everything they can to make it "not" a porsche with all of the mods. nothing wrong with that, they just aren't the same kind of porsche owner as say the kind you will find at a 356 rally. traditionalist in the porsche sense. another bit of proof for this puddin' is in how many porsches you see for sell that have such low mileage... you wonder if the owner ever even drove the thing..."porsche drivers" drive their cars, the cherish what it is that porsche made it to be and share a brotherhood of sorts with other "porsche drivers."

POST 4Original post

Weird that fellow Porsche owners would want to race you. It does not prove much unless you have some sort of rocket engine under the hood. The reason I love my Porsche is that I have nothing to prove to anyone now. I know I have "the bomb" and everyone else knows I have "the bomb". It keeps everything in check. The only time I was ever challenged was by a piece of "trailer trash" in a beat up old 80's Firebird. He was pissed that I honked when he veered into my lane. At the next stop light, he tried to race me from a standing start. I just let him go and have his fun. I mean, why race a guy in a $500 car? He's a loser anyway!

POST 5Original post

Hey, there was a day when I drove a $500.00 car. Thank God now I've got DA BOMB!!!

POST 6Original post

You are just meeting up with the wrong kind of people. Most 911 owners I meet on the road either flash or wave. Boxster owners are another thing altogether. They give that straight ahead "I don't see you" look. Not a generalization, but a description of the Boxster owners I come across. Kids in Toyotas/Hondas either just look or egg me on to see what the car can do. I just smile and drive normal. Gagged into a 120 mph race while on the cell phone on a public road? Uhhhh, maybe you ARE the wrong kind of people!!!

POST 8Original post

Here's a good one. On my way to rally school, I saw this awesome white 993 C4 coming up fast in the left hand lane. Since there is NO ONE else on the road, I almost expected a nod, a wave, a thumbs up or something, anything to acknowledge another Porsche right there with you. When the guy was passing me, I gave him a huge thumbs up (my wife still makes fun of me) but he never even looked and proceeded to move into my lane w/o any blinkers. Now, here's where it gets interesting. Turns out, he and I were going to the same place. Before the school began, there was a buffet and he was the guy standing in front of me! I commented on his awesome 993 and the fact that I saw dealer plates on it, so he must have just bought it. He goes, yaah, I saw your car earlier. That's one of them "water-cooled" cars, right? LOL. He was a nice guy but came across very ignorant on Porsches save for the fact that he was ripping up the road in one of them. After talking to him, I wouldn't expect any wave/nod because I don't think he knew about that "tradition".

POST 9Original post

My friend wilber got hit up by a By Design/FVD Stage 3 car on PCH. The guy in the FVD car was with his girlfriend and thought he was going to smoke wilber, only to find out that in less than a quarter mile , wilber smoked him by over 10 car lengths. The girlfriend started to yell how the FVD car has 540hp etc. So they ran again and again, and every time the FVD car was smoked. The guy then asked wilber what he had done to his car, and wilber said, "Oh, it's STOCK!" Yeah, I guess Porsche decided to make a 550rwhp version of the 996TT

POST 10Original post

The US, a really BIG melting pot! But hey now, my 78 Targa only has 90k miles, and I can't imagine a more enjoyable car to drive. On nice sunny days anyway.

Overall this past 6 months, it spent time in the shop for two months in and out for various work upgrades. Also, I dropped the cell phone for those 30 seconds on the interstate.

POST 12Original post

It's kinda like PDA, only instead of "Get a room" it's "Get some track time"! If someone wants to race me on the street, my money says they've never even SEEN a track, or they'd surely realize the futility of a street race. Besides, 9/10 times it would just be a drag race...in a Porsche? I don't think my Viper GTS was anywhere near the sports car that my C2 is, but it would stomp damn near any Porsche in a "street race", as would a lot of lesser cars. As for me, I just ignore them...they either "get it" or they don't. -DT

POST 13Original post

Sorry, got a bit off-topic there... P-car drivers nice to me, a flash of the ol' X-lights, a nod, something, usually there. Respect, mon! Noo problem, mon. -DT

Typical 993er elitist fool:
quote:
Originally posted by Chicago996: Here's a good one. POST 15Original post

Please do not lump him with us 993ers. Although there are plenty of us 993 owners who are fools, I think this guy should be classified as an "ignorant Porsche fool".

POST 16Original post

Weird. I haven't had this experience. I don't always get a "Porche wave" when I pass or pull along side a fellow Carrera driver, but I've never been snubbed or incited to race by one either. As for those 993ers, I wouldn't have even known about this list if it hadn't been for a 993 driver that I met in a parking lot. So not all of you are bad :-)

POST 17Original post

Sorry Ascab- I didn't mean to imply that every 993er is that way-it's just that particular kind I don't care for which they all seem to read the same book on "Proper Inetiquette". If they give out ****-**** back more. Regards. Mike

He could be a hard working guy supporting his family, living in a mansion with plenty of toys in the garage. Even if that is not the case, a loser? I think not." If you read my post, you will note that I referred to the jerk as "trailer trash". My observation was that his car was all banged up, he had greasy long hair, was unshaven, wore tattered clothes, and had bad teeth. The fact that he wants to race me from a stop light on a city street combined with the rest of the information above would tend to make the guy a LOSER!

POST 19Original post

Giving a thumbs up and not getting one back... that's one of the reasons I don't often acknowledge another P-car driver in my area (L.A.). Sometimes you run into people that love the car and its tradition, and know everything about it, and sometimes you run into people that agonized over the choice between their car or an SL500. You never know. From what I've seen, the 993 C2S, C4S drivers are the most personable to other P-car drivers, and 986 drivers are usually the opposite. In fact, it seems like most Boxster drivers I know (four personally) got their cars because the ones they really wanted were too expensive (e.g. Lexus SC430 <shudder&gt . Meanwhile, I'm going to quietly enjoy my dream car and I promise to always wave if you do.

POST 20Original post

What if its a Girl ? i've seen many girls Driving 911's Young and Old ! i flashed couple of times, waved couple of times but i get no response LoL they think am trying to flirt with them or something but am not but althought the porsche doesnt seem like a girli car it looks nice when a girl is driving it

POST 21Original post

This is very disappointing. Something similar happened to me just an hour ago. A gorgeous silver 996 C2 passes me, and I try to match his speed so I can give him the thumbs up. As I'm approaching he notices me and promptly steps on it. He accelerates far above the speed limit whilst weaving IN BUSY TRAFFIC! Guy's a nut. Why's he intimidated by me? Just 'cause I drive a 928, he feels he has to prove how better his car is? He endangers everyone around him, for what? I have a track day coming up this Monday, and there'll be many Porsches out there. I hope he shows up 'cause I want to yell at his a$$ for being a real jerk and being a danger to himself and everyone around him. So maybe I better not wave or acknowledge another brother anymore, if all it's gonna do is incite stupid behaviour. And this is sad, because I really do want to keep up the 'tradition'. Now, if you're the guy in that silver 996 Carrera who acted like a moron an hour ago on westbound Hwy#1...let me say this: You are disrespectful and a jerk. You DO NOT deserve such a fine vehicle. You are also a menace to society and give me and my other Porsche brothers a bad rep. The only other people who could really, truly, emphatically appreciate your car for what it is, is US. The rest of the world will only see you as 'just another pr!ck in a Porsche'. So start acting nice.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

saphriel, is the silver c2 you're talking about in N. Cali? I had another one do the same thing to me junction 280 and 380 northbound near SFO, i was on 280n minding my own biz, and he was merging when he saw me driving a same car, he cut me off and sped off going 100mph in the rain! What's worse, is that I was driving with my wife who was pregnant at the time. you're right though, the worse I hate is people driving crazy endangering other lives. Although I get tempted occasionally to drive at extremely HIGH speeds, never do I do so when I don't have at least two clear lanes up ahead for at least 1/2 mile.

I always try to acknowledge other P cars, I get a reaction about 25% of the time. Doesn't seem to make much difference, old or new , air or water...

POST 25Original post

Most 993 and 996 owners I know get along very well. It's the 964 guys nobody can stand. They are so elitist about always having great senses of humor, being laid back, and the joy of changing clutches all the time. And they never wave at anybody except their mechanics...
