I say that after the 998 porsche will return to calling it a "911" again...or will just use alpha names: Carrera; Turbo; Boxster, with variant suffixs like S, 4S, CS, GT, etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Opinions please:
Would you trade in your 2002/4S(M)- 11,000 KM for a brand new 2003/4S(TIP) cabrio? Regardless $ loss.

If money is no problem and this is what you want, go for it. Personally, I prefer manual and would rather wait for the 998 in 2005.
I thought about the c4s cabrio but I just got my c4s a couple of months ago and it makes no sense as I love the c4s that I have.
Fadz, there is no 03 C4S Cab...just a C4 (narrow-body) Cab. Is a Cab your primary desire? Tip v Std is very much a personal preference. Tip is enjoyable in it's own way, but certainly doesn't give you the "traditional" sports car driving effect. In our case only PITA is removing/replacing/storing the hardtop. You can't beat it in the warm weather...very little wind whey you have the windscreen up!
Hi Fadz
Don is right,my local OPC took US$2000 deposit on a C4S Cabriolet, in March 2002 - I was still waiting in September,to see if it would happen. They were still not sure if/when and what. But, if it happened I was going to be the second in the dealership.
After speaking with Park Lane, London just 6 weeks ago they felt 2004, for the C4S Cab and also TT Cab also. Which makes sense for the company. Incidentley I lost interest waiting and in November brought a cracking C4 Cab in Artic Silver, with just 6,000 miles on the clock - with all my extras - I would have opted for (except white dials).
As for tip or man - manual for me every time.
Good luck.
Fadz,
I believe you have to either like the cab or the coupe. One isn't better than the other. Same thing with the C2 coupe vs C2 cab. It's a question of what you like.
Having said that, I would hold on to my C4S coupe, regardless of whether the C4S cab comes 2003 or 2004. I like the lines of the coupe better, and it has the giant sunroof. It is also a stiffer car for the track, and that's where I get most of my jollies.
As for the tip, I am slowly being made into a convert. My latest DE instructor took me around the track in his 996TT with Tip. Awesome! I still prefer the 6 speed, but I now don't think the current edition of the tip is so bad.
For a cab, in a Porsche, I would prefer a Boxster S. Again, it's a matter of preference, not that one is better than the other.

How much true is the above? waiting for June 2003.
I appreciate all your opinions but i guess i will stick to Wilam (998-2005).
By the way what's the difference between 997 & 998?
997 is the new 911 model after the 996, expected in early 2005 of which we heard numerous still uncomfirmed rumors (3.8l version of the current engine, double clutch sequential, etc) and the 998, well who knows what the 998 will be like, any rumors is likely to be just mere speculations. Some say the 998 will arrive in 2008 but not even Porsche knows that and that is highly unlikely since Porsche always changes the 911 model in 5-6 years average (911SC in 1978, 911carrera in 1983, 964 in 1989, 993 in 1993, 996 in 1999, 997 in 2005 and 998 likely aroud 2011)
I read this article at autospies.com which led me to believe the next model is the 998. Whether it is called the 997 or 998 is just a technical matter:
"Auto Spies exclusive: More news on the next generation Porsche 911
Going retro again?
From Stuttgart...
Sources tell us the 998 it will be released in 2005 (We're hearing Geneva) as a 06 model the Turbo will follow as a 07 model, in 2006.
We saw some pics of the test car and the sketches, and it is definitely not a 993 remake.
Its design, is more retro 911."
Let's take a poll....number will 911 have after the 998.

Carlos, if this is the 911 expected in 2005?
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/997.jpg" alt=" - " />
Then i would rather wait like Wilam for her!
<img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />
I hear ya Fadz, I'm hoping to hop in to one around 2006-2007
<img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
My only doubt, is if I can bear loosing the involvement of the clutch pedal to the rumored double-clutch sequential (DSG) even if the car is faster than a manual
