May want to replace the RMS (rear main seal) at the same time.
Leading evidence: 'Replace rms (rear main seal) at the same time' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace rms (rear main seal) at the same time' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I have read that the cars have a choice of exhaust sound settings, which are selected using a sport button on the centre console.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

There was no change to the front springs & shocks according to the Porsche parts diagrams for M030.
Does anyone have a list of items that were standard on the 40th but an option on other 996C2?
I know about the color and 345hp, etc. But how about suspension or anything else?
I see that some 40th's have comfort seats vs. the sport seats? Any reason? I like the look of the painted backs on the sport seats. Just wondering if I am missing anything.
My car doesn't have the sport seats but it has the optional (addl $$$) comfort seats. They are still hard backs but they are not painted. Not sure why. Here's my window sticker with the factory options.
According to the order guide the 40th also has"
Sport chassis with more rigidly tuned springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars.
I tried to upload the order guide but it exceeds the forum's limits. You can find it over on Renntech or pm me and I'll email it.
I am also surprised that the 40th does not come with NAV as std equipment? I thought it was supposed to come fully loaded with options that came on regular C2. My car is a 2000 but has NAV system as an option...
"Sport chassis" is M030 suspension. Adrian Streather in "996" says the rear springs are slightly longer than normal to accommodate the added mass of the X51 engine package. The main mechanical differences between the 40th and other C2s are the suspension, X51 engine package, and the combination of the limited slip differential and PSM.
the 40th anniversaries should also have a limited slip diffrential (it came on the 1999's and was discontinued henceforth except on the gt3/2...and of course on the 40th anniversary.) The 40th's really got the best of the 996 range.
I "think" the comfort seats in the 40th are different than the normal ones. They have the different seat material, they have full power, heating, and driver side memory, and they still have the hardbacks, unpainted.
See post #6 of this thread. You are correct. I think the LSD was available as an option on the 996 Carrera, but not combined with PSM; that's what distinguishes the 40th. The lockup proportions are lower than on the GT3/2, but LSD helps give the car decent "track cred."
From anotherforum member -
According to Joel Reiser, the PCA 996 guru, the 40th's suspension is not exactly the same as the M030......
I copied the following text from the PCA tech q&a site. The web address is http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id={50EA9C95-8199-4AB3-8DA3-4DCAB3AE76AA}
Question:
I have read here where the "sport suspension" on the 40th Anniversary car is coded M095 versus the M030. I also know that there is a USA and ROW version of the M030 and have read the review of the shock and spring characteristics of each. What I would like to know is whether the suspension modification of the 40 year car is the effectively the same as the USA, ROW or some other suspension specification. Is the 40 year car ride height the same as USA M030, ROW M030 or something else? The car is advertized as being 10 mm lower than standard. Is that 10 mm lower in front and back? Just back? At the end of the day, would an ROW M030 conversion be an improvement in handling over what I have now?
Many thanks
Answer:
There was no change to the front springs & shocks according to the Porsche parts diagrams for M030. The rear only had a different spring & shock specific to the M095 cars.
I believe the M095 40th Anniversary cars were lowered 10mm from standard at both ends. Normally the ROW car is 10mm lower than US ride height up front, but the same ride height as US in the rear. The M095 would be 10mm lower in the rear as well, making it unique, however as yet this is not documented in the factory workshop manuals. The ROW M030 was 10mm lower than standard in the rear, but 20mm lower than standard up front. M030 US cars had the same ride height as standard US cars.
The only way to know for sure on the ride height is to measure it. I would take it to whoever would be doing your lowering if you chose to go that route, and have them check it for you.
I am guessing the ROW M030 suspension would probably provide 10mm more lowering up front, and a slightly firmer ride all the way around. Still not firm, just a bit less soft.

Hmmm... my 40th has the so called comfort seats, but no unpainted hardback. The backs are wrapped in leather. Not that it really matters as I thoroughly enjoy every second behind the wheel of this car!
I've never seen a painted hardback seat in real life so maybe mine aren't the so-called "hardbacks". They are definitely different than the seats that were in my 2000 996 so I'll have to take a picture. Do your comfort seats have seat pockets on the back?
^^^
Red: No seat pockets on the back of my car seats... I bet you're pulling my leg on this one
Here's a comparison of seats (albeit for the 997).
The one on the left is similar to what is on my car. The one on the right but with a GT silver color would be similar to the painted back seats on the 40th.
Just purchased a 40th Anniversary today. Like new with 25k. Question? I have read that the cars have a choice of exhaust sound settings, which are selected using a sport button on the centre console. Was this a option or standard on all 40th cars?
I too thought the PSE was standard based on this website:
http://www.etusivu.info/Porsche-911-...nniversary.htm
oops! can't trust everything you read on the internet
I do not think PSE was even an option on the 40th. As far as I know, the only options were:
- Rear Wiper
- Nav
- Bose
- 6 Disc Changer
- Comfort Seats
Now, some people have added PSE including the button. My car has the button, but to PSE cans, as the PO took them off prior to sale.
Those were the only "factory" options other than the Natural grey floor mats as described in the order guide:
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...rder-guide-us/
However the Tequipment options like the PSE could have been installed by the dealer.
My 40th is missing Nav, but has everything else.
I am number #302. Looks like I have the following options:
Natural Grey floor Mats $115
Comfort Seats $1,550
Porsche Communications Mgt $2,680
Rear Window Wiper $345
Bose High End Sound Package $795
Remote CT Player. $715
MSRP was $96,765
Welcome aboard to the world of the 40th AE!
As far as your question what to do about the IMS? Totally depends on your state of mind. If it hasn't been upgraded and it concerns you, do what I recently did........went to the LN Engineering website and find yourself an approved installer who is in your local area.
I chose South Shore Performance (Bill Rudtner) and am completely satisfied with the work they did. May want to replace the RMS (rear main seal) at the same time. If the clutch disc is worn it makes sense to change that out as well.
If you're not losing sleep or overly worried about the IMS than wait until you need to service your clutch and do it at that time.
Would you mind sharing what head-unit you have installed vs. the original nav unit?
Welcome to RL! You've probably found it already, but you should check out the 40AE thread (
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...nd-faq-24.html
). Lot's of activity among us 40AE owners on that thread. I've added you to the 40AE registry (the link to the registry is in my signature below). Last entry I have for your car was when it was for sale at Schneider + Nelson last summer. Post some recent pics of that beast when you get a chance.
