Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Check for their language on 'seals and gaskets.' If not specifically covered, the warranty is worthless.
Leading evidence: 'Check their language' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check their language' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

worried about my engine cratering, but don't really want to do the IMS replacement since it seems much more expensive for a Tip (especially since I'll never have the "might as well do it while I'm replacing the clutch" scenario) ....

If they are nit picking these small things, what do you think will happen if you put a claim in for replacing the engine?

If my expectation is that when I have major repairs (alternator goes out, tranny blows, or that part which shall not be mentioned causes me to replace an engine), that I will have to spend a few hours on the phone with them, and in the end, they only cover 70-80% of actual costs, and for smaller stuff, put a claim in, but if it's denied just eat that cost myself, then I still think I'm well ahead of the game at only $500/year.

if my expectation is that they will cover 100% of everything without any hassle, then I would run away.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I dont know about them, but i have had great luck (so far) with carchex on my bmw. Pm me if you want details (im not affiliated with them, just a happy customer...)
Whatever you pick, read the fine print really well. I emailed carchex a bunch of specific questions about known failure points on my bmw to confirm what was/wasnt covered...in writing.
Two suggestions:
1. Check for their language on 'seals and gaskets.' If not specifically covered, the warranty is worthless.
2. Ask your mechanic/independent shop. They are the ones with direct experience with these companies and know which pay, and which don't.
They just offered me $2492 for a 5 year, 60,000 warranty on my 2002 C4.
My research has shown that they are a PIA to get money back from, but most complaints are that they didn't fully reimburse them (Non-OEM parts or only paying $80/hr labor). But for that price, it seems to me that if they just cover 60% of my actual costs, it would still be worthwhile to give me piece of mind equal to having IMS replaced....
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
PITA to get money back, they don't pay for OE parts or more than $80/hr.......isn't that enough of an indication to stay they hell away from them? If they are nit picking these small things, what do you think will happen if you put a claim in for replacing the engine? Most of these warraty companies are not worth the paper the contract is signed on.
Depends how you go into it.... if my expectation is that they will cover 100% of everything without any hassle, then I would run away. They've been around since 2009, so it's not like it's a complete and total scam.
You're better off with that $2500 in the bank in case you need to make a repair. If you don't need it, you still have $2500. The chances of something truly major happening to the car are pretty slim.
While I agree with that line of thinking, it's a shame we have to think in those terms. Aren't there any reputable companies out there that you wouldn't have to fight to get them to honor their contract?

4 years in the business can hardly be called a "been around". There is a good chance they wont pay out anything, let alone 70%. I can see you really want to go with them as their price is attractive to you but to me, better off saving the money and either find a good insurance company (good luck with that) or put the money in the bank. Also, I would not trust an insurance company that has a .com in their name.
I probably have spent too much time on this forum... worried about my engine cratering, but don't really want to do the IMS replacement since it seems much more expensive for a Tip (especially since I'll never have the "might as well do it while I'm replacing the clutch" scenario) .... I also know that the car only was driven for about 100 miles over the course of the year before I bought it 3 months ago, which makes me nervous.
I was looking at other options for aftermarket warranty but haven't found any that will cover a 12 year old 996 unless the warranty is bought through the dealer.
Paying $2492 plus 60% of the IMS replacement seems like it would be significantly more than just paying for the IMS replacement. I realize that you're worrying about more catastrophic failures, but in the quoted post, if what you're looking for is peace of mind, spending money on the necessary preventive maintenance is probably more sensible than waiting for things to fail and then trying to extract the cash from a reluctant insurer.
Save the money and keep it aside in case something goes wrong, these cars are really not that bad.
anyways keep in mind if the engine blows up they will ask YOU to pay to open it up and check if they cover the reason for failure...at which point the gamble starts all over gain. because you will have to put $5k on the table to open the engine without knowing if they will pay a dime...
for full disclosure I bought extended warranty on my car but it was a waste of money, I should have listen to the forum guys and invest in preventive maintenance instead.
these cars cost $20k to purchase/resell, if engine blow you can sell the car for $10k, worst case you loose $10k, with a very small chance of that happening.
I didn't buy the car from a dealer.... anyways, you guys have talked me out of it... I do all the preventative maintenance, and bought the car so I can learn to tinker on it by myself (which would probably void the warranty anyways).
I did see on some 986 forums though that there were several people recommending this warranty, which is what peaked my interest.
