In fact, I can use the key in the door to open and close the top without any problem, and sometimes the switch even works.

I have a 2000 996 cab. I've been having a sporadic problem with opening and closing the top using the dash switch. When I hit the switch, the warning light for the top flashes 4 times then pauses, flashes 4 times etc. The hood and engine cover are closed and the brake's on, and I can't see anything else that might be causing a problem. In fact, I can use the key in the door to open and close the top without any problem, and sometimes the switch even works. Nothing in the manual addresses this and so I thought I'd ask if anyone here knows what the problem is before I have to take it to the dealer. Thanks

Paul E., I wonder if the flashes indicate something that is impeding the top from moving. Maybe, something that may prevent it from operating smoothly. I have not experienced this with my 2000 Cab but, you may want quickly to the dealer while your car is under warranty. Good luck.

There are 4 conditions that must be met to lower the top (see below) -- my guess would be bad switch or loose wire. The convertible top is actuated if: 1. Terminal 15 is connected via ignition. (Switch) 2. The parking brake input is connected to ground (parking brake engaged). 3. No speedometer signals greater than 5 km/h (3 mph) are present. 4. Engine compartment lid is closed (input not at ground potential).
