The unit did display briefly an "Updating Software." message on screen when I used your disc image.

I noticed that the filenames and extensions were all in lowercase in George's set, and the CD Name differed - yours was CD_3770 and the full set disc 6 for NE/Mid-Atlantic was CD_2721.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just burned the "central states" disc (I thought we were part of Midwest & Ohio Valley, but that didn't work for me) and when I punch in Carbondale, it gives me literally 14 streets to choose from.
I just purchased my 1st Porsche 2001 996TT (17,800 miles). It has Nav with 16bit PCM 1.0. It came with 1 disc (USA Map disc 7 South East S0006-0117-102) 2001.1. It is my understanding there are 8 discs. I have looked on Ebay but all I've seen are for PCM2.0. Is there a way to beg, steal, borrow, trade, lend, buy or otherwise acquire these discs? I've checked at my local Porsche dealer and these discs are long since obsolete. I am mostly looking for historical purposes to have a complete car.
Any advice/recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks!
Can't we just burn these discs? I had an '08 M5 with DVD-based navigation, and it was possible to just copy someone's original DVD and use it in my car.
I have the PCM 1.0 with an east coast CD. (I forget which one without looking at it.) I'll make an image of it and save it to my web hosting for you guys to try out.
EDIT - Here's the root directory:
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/
Here's the direct link to the New England / Mid Atlantic CD:
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/911...6-0116-301.zip
Interestingly, the CD is only about 300MB, instead of using the full 650 or 700MB capacity of the CD. Did Porsche try to coax extra money out of customers by making there be more CDs required to get coverage of the whole US?
If you have a PCM 1.0 NAV CD, it would be MUCH appreciated if you could take an image of it and upload it to me. Here is a link to an old freeware version of the Nero CD burning software:
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/Nero/Nero93.zip
Install just the "Nero Express Essentials" option, click on Image, Project, Copy -> Copy Entire CD. Select Image Recorder as the destination drive, and hit Copy. Name the file accordingly, and Nero will save an image of it to the hard drive, which you can then upload to me. Send me a PM and I'll pass along details for how to upload. Your CD will be added to the repository to be shared with others.
You know, I guess I should make a CD from my image and make sure my PCM 1.0 NAV accepts it. Unfortunately I am in southern Illinois, not the northeastern US, so no map displays when the CD is inserted, but hopefully it will throw an error if it decides it doesn't like my burned CD.
EDIT 2 - My burned CD appears to work. The nav system lets me input an address but only errors out when I try to start, due to "vehicle off map". But no error about it not liking the CD, so I feel like this is a viable solution. Let's make this happen, everyone!
As I've stated before I have a complete set of disks. But am unable to E-Mail the data as each disk is too large. I have burned copies before for people and run copies myself in my own 2001 996. I'll be happy to share them with anyone. You need the oldest blank CD's. NOT re-writeable (they will not work).
If you have a drop box I can post them there.
George
Here is a link to the ZIP file with all of the CDs in it.
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/911...ll_US_Maps.zip
This is thanks to George_B, who uploaded them to me.
When you burn each CD, you need to make sure that the CD's label matches the content. IE, CD_2716 as the label for the California/Nevada disc. If you don't, the disc won't work. (For example, the first disc I burned, I left it as "My Disc" and the nav system wouldn't read it.
DO NOT use CDRWs, only CDRs. Make sure that if your burning software has a "leave disc open to add future data", that you uncheck it.
If you don't have a CD burning program, here is a link to an old freeware version of Nero Burning ROM:
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/Nero/Nero93.zip
(The only thing you need to install is Nero Express Essentials--the rest is a bunch of crap you don't need.)
I've read that these maps suck and.. yeah. I live in Carbondale, IL. There are, of course, dozens of streets. I just burned the "central states" disc (I thought we were part of Midwest & Ohio Valley, but that didn't work for me) and when I punch in Carbondale, it gives me literally 14 streets to choose from. I may be doing something wrong, but it seems likely that these maps are exceedingly rudimentary. Worth noting is that each CD only has 200-300MB of data, and a CD can hold between 650-700MB of data. So Porsche obviously split up the US into WAY more CDs than it should have if it packaged things properly.
Brian, see my post right above yours with a link to download a ZIP file with all 7 CDs. As long as you have a CDR and a CD burner in your computer, you should be able to burn any of those CDs for use in your PCM 1.0 system.
@thefleshrocket
Thanks for sharing the image files! I have a 2002 build date of 3/2002 and only had the Northwest disc 2 so had never had the pleasure of using PCM.
I'm in Virginia, so I burned the image that you uploaded for the New England / Mid-Atlantic region and got it to work! The unit did display briefly an "Updating Software." message on screen when I used your disc image.
Interestingly, I tried that file that
@George_B
uploaded first and couldn't get them to work. I did use CDRs as recommended - no love. I noticed that the filenames and extensions were all in lowercase in George's set, and the CD Name differed - yours was CD_3770 and the full set disc 6 for NE/Mid-Atlantic was CD_2721.
I just did a fun 2k mile roadtrip - thinking it would be entertaining to see if I could actually use these on a long roadtrip - anyone have any suggestions on getting the rest of the discs working?
tried download but i'm on a mac and the download is for microsoft. Help. Can I get you to burn a copy of the southeast disc and let me know cost Thanks
Thanks to
thefleshrocket
for sharing the files and
George_B
for uploading the data, I was able to burn each of the nav CDs using the data from the zip file and confirmed that disc 2 worked for my friend's '02 996 with PCM 1. (We're based in Seattle).
I still have a ton of blank CDs, and would be willing to burn more sets for anyone who finds this post in the future.
I would love a copy of the SE USA disc I live in Florida and would love to have a working Nav system in my 2001 996
my address is 14 Garden Grove Court Ponte Vedra FL 32081
let me know if I need to send you a check
Thanks
Brian
I believe you need Disk 7 Southeast. Happy to include the 6 other disks as well in case you want to travel elsewhere. How much do you think this service is worth? I'm not looking to make money on it, but I would like to cover my costs and have some compensation for the effort involved.
Disc creation and labeling complete! I'm pretty proud of my work, I hope these work out for your Brian. Here's a sample. will be sending them your way tomorrow.
Sure, would be happy to. I have burnt a few sets of these, happy to send to others as well.
Ga-Dawg96, check your personal messages (I think that's what it's called) and we can exchange email addresses.
Dear Flamer NZ,
That would be great if you still had a PCM 1.0 navigation set .
I received your email and responded back via email.
Let me know if you received the email. I can send you my address via the email.
Best Regards
Ken
I see a bunch of people asking for CDs to be burned for them. I'm requoting my old post where I've shared out the CDs as well as the software necessary to burn them. There's no reason anyone who isn't at least a little bit computer savvy couldn't do this for themselves as long as they have access to a CD burner.

EDIT, looks like my links don't work. The files are still in the same hosting, so, let's try re-linking.
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/911/
is the folder where the CDs ZIP files are located.
http://nav.thefleshrocket.com:81/Nero/
is where the Nero burning software is at.
EDIT2 - Yup, the new links work.
Yes, that's how I was able to get my ISOs so that I could burn a set. Honestly, I only have one set left which I plan to offer to
@hwill01
then I'll be done after that.
I feel like most people don't have CD writers anymore, so if there's a huge demand, I will make another few sets.
