Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'air oil separator' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'air oil separator' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check plugs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I done motor mounts, plus oil changes, trans fluid too.( 6sp) but the last few weeks I got a squeak in the car and i am thinking it is the motor mounts.

Assuming "squeak" is engine running car stationary, did you try warming it up to where "squeak" happens then removing belt and running it just long enough to hear if noise is there?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK everyone, I have been doing my research
I bought my 99 porsche 996 c2 in Augaust, it has been great. Fixing some things here and there just making it better than when I got it. I done motor mounts, plus oil changes, trans fluid too.( 6sp) but the last few weeks I got a squeak in the car and i am thinking it is the motor mounts. torque solution mounts is what I used.
I am thinking of ordering some new stock mounts just to see if that works.
Yes old mounts were bad.
I even changed the serp. belt yesterday didn't help.
but it only squeaks after it gets warm, cold its quiet
.
and yes I checked all the idler pulleys too belt off they spin smooth and quiet
The alt. is a little noisey but I will be changing it out soon, got a spare one coming.
one more question, should my car have the sprag pulley on the alt. being a 6 speed car or was that something that was change after 99?
the car now has about 134k miles on it I put almost 10k miles on it since I got it.
thanks everyone
Jeff
Needs Sprag, how is the water pump?

Can you describe the squeak - when it happens, where it seems like it comes from, long/short, once/repeating, anything else you can think to describe it. Or record a clip with your phone and post it...
My '99 makes its share of noises, but squeaking isn't one of 'em.
Well I did find a post last night that had the same sound, it sounds like two pieces of metal rubbing together almost chirping like. I can hear I have lifter tick also but this is different. It is from the back of the car. I even had it on the lift and listened for where it came from but I just can't pin point where or what side of the car it is coming from. I even pulled the motor mounts and switched sides to see if that would change, but didn't help.
Thanks
Jeff
Wow, never heard that one before. Why don't you remove the serpentine belt and start the car back up (briefly). If the sound is gone, you know it has to be one of the accessories, and from there you can figure out which one it is and get it knocked out.
Ok everyone got rid of the squeak..
After trying everything I could think of, even removed the belt plus put a new one on.
As I said it only did it after it was warm. I put it on the lift today to look around and see about doing plugs on the car, did not know when they were done last time. First plug I pulled answered all the problems.. Pass side front plug was LOSE, it turned it out with just my hands no ratchet needed, so all plugs changed and they weren't that bad to change.. And yes they did need changed. So if you get a funny sound squeaking noise check your plugs..
Hope this can help someone else.
Jeff
I had a weird "Squeak" in my Boxter one time. Turned out to be my AOS!!!!!
The failing AOS was causing excessive vacuum in my crank case that caused air to be sucked in thru my RMS. Really wild. Changed the AOS and that did it.
