Suggestion
I called two other auto upholstery places both of whom use GAHH tops and was quoted closer to $1800, which would include the top and the installation.

You can re-use your interior liner if it is in good shape.

I would like to replace my top on my 2002 C4. I was hoping some of you may know of a good brand or source to buy the convertible top. Then I could find an installer in the Washington DC (VA) area.

I am not a convertible guy, but I have heard good things about GAHH in North Hollywood, CA.
I have no affiliation with or interest in the shop, however.
Last September, I bought a Sierra brand top online from a company called Car Tops Direct (no affiliation) for about $520 and I am pleased with it.
My car is a 996.1 and so I went with the plastic rear window even though an upgrade to a smaller glass window is possible.
A new top for your 996.2 will have probably have a glass rear window standard.
I also went with the German canvas which was a just a bit more costly.
You can re-use your interior liner if it is in good shape. I did.
I've heard GAHH makes good tops as well.
Installation is a 12-13 hour job per the mechanic's book. I found a local guy who has done quite a few tops who charged me $700 to install mine.

Look for the thread I started on my cheap ebay top. Works great. Yes on German Canvass. Was supposedly made by a former GAHH exec who had the laser cut patterns.
After exchanging PMs with Spokayman, I checked out cartopsdirect.com. For the 2002+ the tops are now $599. I spoke to a local installer (recommended by both the website and who also advertises in the NW PCA magazine) and he quoted 10 hours labor at $80/hour or thereabouts, so $1400 total. He suggested that I order the top and have it drop shipped to him, since I would get a better price by doing that. The top manufacturer would warranty the top and he would warranty the install. I called two other auto upholstery places both of whom use GAHH tops and was quoted closer to $1800, which would include the top and the installation. In this case, the warranty would be from the installer for both the top and the installation.
The $1400 installer would take 4-5 days and for the other two, one was 2 days and the other was a day. I will probably end up going with the one day installer because they were cheaper than the other GAHH installer and are closer.
I was also advised that I should not lower the top for at least a week to ensure that the material stretches and that come good weather time, there might be a considerable wait to get the top installed!
