Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2000 Carrera rear driver side window stopped working. While trying to get the window to go up I heard what sounded like a piece of plastic fall from the window regulator area. First thing I need to do is remove the hard top then expose the mechanism to see what broke. Im going to research this problem extensively prior to diving in. Does anyone have any insight on this issue that they could share? The quoted price Ive seen online to repair at the dealer is in excess of $1,400. Apparently there is a rebuild kit on eBay for about $35. Assuming my regulator is still good Im hoping I can keep costs down. Wont know until I open her up. Wish me luck.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I extensively researched the project. There are a lot of videos and detailed instructions on how to remove the regulator. I went so far as to remove the side panel/trim. At which point I decided to have Dave at TRE do it. I gave him a call and he said yea we do a lot of those. Hata off those who tackle this problem themselves.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There is a lot of information how to DIY the problem with the rear window regulator. Unfortunately the regulator is NLA. After removing the rear side panel trim I realized the job was going to be too difficult for me so I took the car to TRE Motorsports. Dave told me they need to adapt the rear window regulator from a 997 to my 996. The repair required some creative ability, but after all was said and done the job got done right, quickly and it wasn’t as expensive as I expected. . . .now I’m off to deal with the issue with my Cayenne.
