Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was replacing my belt over the weekend, and while checking my AC compressor pulley/clutch i noticed there is some play and some noise while spinning, not bad though. I made a quick video. With the belt on i didn't notice any belt/pulley noise while the car is idling. Should i replace it now? What are my options, can i replace just the clutch or does the whole compressor has to change? I read somewhere i believe that you can change just the bearing in these things. Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abbR...ature=youtu.be

POST 2Original post

Doesn't sound bad at all and it may also be the natural play from the magnetic clutch. Seems a new clutch is as expensive as a new compessor (that comes with the clutch). IMHO, not worth the trouble at this point unless it's getting much worse. Instruction for replacing the clutch is here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...ressor-clutch/

Thanks for the input. It was my exact thought originally, because it is a clutch and once it is engaged, there probably isn't any play at all (i could be wrong). Although that bearing does sound a little dry.

If you have Durametric, you can activate the clutch and try spinning it again (in the right direction). Probably not as bad as you thought. If you don't have Durametric, you can also energize it via its single wire connector but I'm not sure you can access the connector without loosening the compressor from its mount.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
