This is not a probability of success.

Does anybody know wether Porsche will use the DSG transmission on the "cheap" models like 911 (996, 997) in the nearer future?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi! Does anybody know wether Porsche will use the DSG transmission on the "cheap" models like 911 (996, 997) in the nearer future? They use it on the Carrera GT, and Audi brings this transmission type to the masses (new A3 will be equipped with DSG as an option). As far as I know Porsche used this transmission in the 80s in prototype racing. The concept sounds good to me, fast and conveniant at the same time.

POST 3Original post

I believe he is talking about the new audi system that actually has two different clutches operated by the computer that allow you to select two gears at one time. So when shifting from gear to gear, there is no hesitation in the power like in a normal manual or automatic transmission.

POST 5Original post

The Carrera GT doesn't use DSG - it's a regular manual 6-speed (with a carbon clutch disc).

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@GrantG: Oops, you are right about the GT. At least it was not an ordinary clutch... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

POST 7Original post

What Audi fails to mention is that Porsche was the one who started it, the PDK on their race cars in the 80's.

POST 8Original post

Well i went to the link and as much as i want to understand it, i'd rather try it.. seems too complicated! maybe one day. waz
