Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Who is DCLAT6? He has been making a habit of coming to the 993 board and trying to create heated debates between 993 and 996 owners. Although I am a happy 993 owner, I do not discount the qualities of the 996. 996's have more HP, torque, wider track, longer wheelbase, is faster, quicker, more comfortable and is the latest iteration of the classic 911. The 993 is smaller, slower, less comfortable and has a dated interior. So why do SOME 996 owners (DCFLAT6) feel so threatened by 993's? Could it be the exterior looks of the 993 which IMHO is the best looking? Is it because the 993 already has a place in history as the last and best of the original air cooled 911's as opposed to the 996 being the first water cooled 911 venture by Porsche?

POST 3Original post

Can't speak for everyone else. But... I think if you traffic this board for a while, you will find that 996 owners here almost all envy/miss/respect/prefer the overall fit, finish, and particularly the paint quality of the 993 cars, and spend foolish sums trying to come close to the sound. I don't think the 993 has many enemies here--although there is certainly an undercurrent of disrespect for the latest M3 and the exterior of the butt-ugly new 7-Series (just wait until people see what Chris Bangle did to the 6).

POST 4Original post

Willard--you are right, don't feed the animals. Didn't catch your post in time.

POST 5Original post

Ditto... take it somewhere else/ ALL Porsches are great (I'm on my 5th)

POST 7Original post

Hey, in theory everyone here who bought a 996 had an opportunity to buy/keep (whatever) a 993, and chosea 996. I don't think anyone twisted anyone's arm. so why the complaining at all. Many of us have had both and my judgment is that their just different. Hey if I had my choice for a car just to motor around in I'd choose a 73S. Now THERE is a true Porsche! Aaron's 73:

Respect to you....at the end of the day, all of us own damn good cars.... I think the problem that adscab has is with DCFlat6. Adscab is just voicing his frustration at this guy who keeps on trying to start a 993/996 war on the 993 board when there really is none.

POST 10Original post

Well frankly speaking about the only time I get miffed is when someone(or thing) starts dissing other people's cars then the bus stops there. There are alot of great people on this board and there are just a few bad apples and I don't like apples. We're all in the same Porsche family. Regards. Mike

POST 11Original post

i agree with all. most rennlisters are great and most porsche are wonderful. on my fourth now, but somehow, i missed out on the mighty 993's... must rectify that )

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mooty, I don't think you missed out. After all, you have an 02 C4S for goodness sake! The fact that we can all enjoy our various P-cars shows the quality of cars Porsche has been making for a long time.

POST 13Original post

I still miss my 993 C4S & I wish to find a late yr low kms 993 Turbo...

POST 14Original post

My curiosity brought me over here because of DCFLAT6 bs in the 993 forum-glad to see comradery across models and that DC is a rare bird. Also interesting to see similar views on BMW's latest styling blunders....FYI, I hear that they are frantically working on a new 7 design because of the flak....sorry if a little OT.

POST 15Original post

Franklin--in my opinion the 7 is peculiar, the new 6 is tragic compared to the classic one. The rear of the Lexus SC430 grafted onto the new 7-series front-end, to my eye.

POST 16Original post

Your right on Nick. The great thing about a good design, like any 911 is the fact that it makes an overall statement. Elements blend in smoothly front to back. Sure you could point out differences between models, but each model has it's forms beautifully integrated to make that single statement. The new BMWs totally lack that cohesive flow of design elements from front to back-I just don't get it. I used to be a big Bimmer fan-not any more.

POST 17Original post

That new 5 Series is aweful looking in the last Autoweek. Why does Bangle have to f#%k everything up.

POST 18Original post

I know. Just a funny FYI: Since I owned a 7, I still get stuff in the mail from BMW. I just got a letter from the BMW NA marketing guy telling me how the new 7 series is a huge hit, selling more in this past year than any other year for the 7 series. The bizarre thing is that I also heard that after the Geneva show, they went back to start a "crash" re-design of the car because of the flak....

POST 19Original post

DJ I agree. The new 5 is a huge disappointment. He ought to change his name to Chris Bungled. My wife has an 01 530iA with Sport. I think we'll keep it a while.

POST 21Original post

This past year was a pretty big one for lease expiration industry-wide, I believe, which may be propping up the 7-series a little in the short run as they roll over. And it isn't as though it's poorly engineered, although getting way too big and the V12 is basically a limo now. I have a feeling the new Audi A8 could gain some share in the category once it comes, at least in the U.S. where it never caught on too much in the past. 4WD and remains just about 4000lb which is more like E Class or 5 Series in weight. In person, but not pictures, I actually do think the Z4 works. But despite prudently taking less risk than on the 7, the 5 looks something like a Subaru to me. Obviously the 6 just makes me sad, and probably carries forward the "looks like a fish, moves like a fish, turns like a cow" thing from the 8. I saw Bangle's styling approach described as "glory or death" once, about right.
