Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone, This is my first post to the 996 board, since we haven't actually picked up our 99 996 yet (Wednesday). Anyways, the car seemed in excellent condition in general, however, there was a significant amount of vibration at idle that could be felt in the cabin. Is this normal? The engine was definitely smooth, and not missing in any way. It almost felt like it could be bad engine mounts or something. The vibration went away completely once moving. Just not sure if a little vibration is normal in these cars, as we are coming from a 928 that was pretty smooth at idle. Any thoughts appreciated. Jeff

POST 2Original post

That's how my pump problem started.. The seats would shake a bit, but unless you really notice.. Otherwise, the car picks up perfectly well at all speeds.. Well, to relieve doubts, bring your ear very close to the front tyre (left made more moise in my case) and listen very carefully at idle.. If you hear a loud whining noise, might be the fuel pump.. Waz *sceptical about pumps now!*

POST 3Original post

I don't know so much about that. I know there is a ROW ecu update that gets rid of the poor idle. I have the same on my car and am going to have it done soon as I take it in for warranty stuff.

POST 4Original post

Congrats on Ur new toy I do find the same problem on my 01'too, only when cold start idling?!?!?!

POST 5Original post

The idle is very steady at just below 800 rpm and the passenger seat vibrates a tad when the fan/ ac is off. Picks up to 800 and the seat vibration goes away when the fan is on. Has since new, and I don't think it's a fault. 99 C2.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replys! The test drive was around 45min, so I have to assume it warmed up completely. Didn't check it with the AC on mind you. I guess I'll keep an eye on it to see if it goes away, stays the same or gets worse...
