This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Is this physically possible? I realize this is not very smart from a cost vs value standpoint, I'm just curious if it's possible from a frame/mounts standpoint. This would be on a 99.

POST 2Original post

I doubt Porsche made 2 different version of body frames. Are you asking because you already have 996 with automagic but itching to get the manual transmission? Or found a cheap 996 with automagic in the market and checking the feasibility of transplant the manual transmission box? Unless you get 996 for less than $3k, I don't think it would make the financial sense to do this work.

POST 3Original post

As one of my former boss used to say: "Anything is possible as long as it is not against the laws of physics, it just takes more time and money".

Mk1 had two different versions(between the awd and 2wd)but the same for manual and auto IIRC. Based on loose memory, i believe the frames though are universally compatible between LHD and RHD. Besides the actual physical swap, the wiring and electronics are another thing to overcome which would be the bigger challenge IMO.

POST 5Original post

Modern cars have too much electronic to do that? Trade it in. Save time and money.

Good point, I helped my Dad convert a AT Volvo with never ending tranny problems to a manual in the 70's, took us a day if I remember right but that was before cars had computers. I've searched all the different forums and can't find anyone who's ever done it which should be a pretty good give away about the feasibility of it to begin with. Thanks for all the responses guys!
